Everything God created was destined to dissolve back to it's roots whence it came, everything. including Adam and Eve. Even though the flesh of Adam and Eve was to go back to dust as everything else was to return, God had an anointing on them to keep them from dissolving back into dust. When they ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil,and their eyes were opened.,they severed that anointing which caused them to separate from God. So they too, would now dissolve and turn back to dust. That tree was put there so they could obtain only the knowledge of good,which was of God., but when Satan rebelled,and turned against God, then not only did good exist, but evil as well,therefore forbidding them from the tree altogether, because of evil.. The fruit did not contain the knowledge of good and evil, but it revealed the knowledge of good and evil. People need to stop the lie about them being tested by God to see what they would do. eternal death is no joking matter. they were not set up to fall into death.
