The whole "rep power" business…

What is the big deal of having a certain number of rep power? Does it make you the popular person on CC?
I mean really… we all seem to be aiming at gaining the most likes and reps (even me). I don't get it. I hope we haven't lost the true meaning of reputation comments.

There are already several threads on this, but anyhoo.. Reps aren't a big deal. To some, they are, to others, they don't care. And no, reps don't make a person "popular" on CC. lol
 
Well it really depends on how you look at it, to some yes it could mean they are a well respected member to others it could simply mean nothing at all. Some people actually purposely raise their rep power by repping each other as much as possible like say two friends wanted to get super high rep power they would take turns repping each other as much as possible. For me rep power is no big deal I would rather be a well respected member by what I say and post than by rep power and all my rep power was given to me from what I post that and the number of posts I made because you get a rep power for every thousand posts you make.

oh yeah…they are a couple of threads about this…im completely embarrassed… would you close this thread for me pls? i cant bare the shame and embarrassment

There is no need to have any shame or embarrassmentit's a common mistake, and blue cannot delete the thread only a mod can you would have to contact one like oncefallen he is the most active mod I have seen and he is a pretty cool mod too
 
Blain, the number of posts people have to make to get to their next power, is different for everyone.. Mine used to be 200, then it went to 500, and now 1,000.. I know some who only have to do 100 posts to their next power, and they power-post all day and night to do it..

I've been in this site since 2011 and rep has really never meant anything. Neither has likes. Maybe on a personal level for some, but no one really cares or pays attention to them. So it's pretty safe to say we haven't lost the true meaning.
And not everyone posts with the intention of getting likes or rep. I'm well aware many things I post won't be popular or liked. And that's ok.

Funny thing happens when we get immersed into something. We assume everyone else is immersed with it too. (I write, so of course everyone else writes, kind of mentality.)

The truth is we don't all aim to get reps. I'd be perfectly find without reps all together. On the other hand, I do like when people send me those little notes letting me know either they agree with me, or thought it was funny.

And, on the other side, I really don't care if someone is out to get reps too. I collect teddy bears. Other people collect reps. Just as long as no one collects liver and then leaves it out of refrigeration, I'm cool.

Ack, people really ought to get over thinking they're well respected because they get reps. I got lots of reps and I'm 50/50 on the respect scale. Some can't stand me. Some respect me. Reps really don't tell if someone is well respected. It usually says someone liked something they said a lot.
