The Word 'Testimony' Makes Me Cringe

This is definitely not your average testimony.

I do not like to give my testimony. For one, I really do not want to glorify the life I once lived. Especially not in detail. I certainly am not proud of things I've done.

I remember giving my testimony once with the details of drug abuse and sleeping in a Salvation Army and other such details and what really just floored me was afterwards a college age girl told me that I has an amazing testimony and she wish had a testimony like mine.

You know I wish I had a testimony like?

Those two women in Knoxville that was on tv that ran the Love Kitchen. Getting up every day and spending their lives feeding hungry people for 14 years just through a dream the Lord gave them.

Now, that's testimony!
 
without a test there is no testimony.

Don't worry the only difference between a lump of coal and a diamond is pressure and heat. God will turn both up in your life and make it into a diamond. Have faith and trust in the Lord!

Robert,just an idea here...and also the truth about what a testimony is and everything: you aren't going to ''glorify'' the life you once lived brother. You are glorifying God for what HE alone delivered and healed you from. It's not saying ''oh hey,check this out man,I use to do some crazy stuff, let me tell you about the heck I caused the the everything.I did drugs,I slept around with so many people,I was a drunk that partied hard,I did this,that,and the other thing,man there's not one thing you can name that I didn't do'' or whatever it is that's in one's testimony. It's all about God! You give thanks,praise,honor,and glory to him alone,and you encourage others at the same time,assuring them of things that can be done. You're basically saying to them: "hey friend,listen,you aren't alone,there IS hope,put your faith and trust in God. Look what he has done for me,look where he has brought me from,what all he alone healed me of. He broke the chains that bound me for years!" then tell them whatever it is that God rescued you from. See it in a positive way,for God is our light,especially in this cold,cruel,dark world we live in.

Ananda: I agree with you completely. We're like diamonds,God takes the old us,picks it up,dust it off,polishes it,removes the old things,smooths us out,and makes us shine! Yes we go through ''heat'',(bad things in life,rough times,be they addictions,emotional trauma to over come,physical things,whatever the case may be). However,when God gets us taken care of,then oh how we shine for HIM! No it's not easy,but I guarantee that you can't find one place in the Bible,where God promised us that life would be easy. He DID however say that he is with us always,constantly. That he will deliver us,protect us,lead,guide,and protect us,BUT we have to ask him.The thing is,when we're lost,before accepting Christ,he does it for three reasons. 1:His honor and glory. 2:to wake us up so we can see just how real he is,which in turn becomes our testimony. and 3: so others see how he's working,which draws us all to praising him and everything. Which is great,because others can share our own testimony with others. It's working to help build up the kingdom of God and see souls saved!

The bible in revelation 12: 11 says, and they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony,...
Your testimony is there to show the word that you have been redeemed and you have become more than a conquerer. Say imagine if you lost a boxing fight, you would not want anyone to know, if you won you would want everyone to know. Same for us and the devil.

I was not aware of who these women were from Knoxville and their ministry. I looked it up, and it is pretty amazing thing......BUT, Its all for the glory of God. Everything.....including the life you led, that you have surrendered and turned away from. We are all like dirty rags washed clean by his grace and love and mercy....that is a testiment to His goodness. Sure, I do think some of our rags are dirtier than others, but good thing His love is limitless!

I'm sure your life (testimony) has been more impacting than you realize, and in more ways than you will every see this side of heaven. :)

(I am not proud of things that dot my past either, but praise God I am forgiven!)

I hear you my friend. There might be a reason you don't like to share your testimony. Our testimonies pale in comparison to the Testimony of Jesus Christ. When we are tried we should always remember that Jesus suffered it first. Any temptation that happens to you has happened to him. And remember he overcame them ALL!! So we are almost like living testimonies. What I mean is, our progressive lives are dynamic testimonies. And the beginning and end of our testimonies is all scripted by God. You might ask again what I mean. He who establishes you will also keep you. He is the author and finisher of our faith. What began by faith must also END WITH FAITH. Be a living testimony, not of yourself, but of Jesus Christ.

Every time I overcome, I remember that Christ overcame first, and then he overcame again through me. Jesus is ever overcoming sin. His blood is ever overcoming. Then our lives are shaped into his image. This is what I mean, we were lost in sin then Christ came in, and he gave us life. Now, a seed has to grow. And a seed is ever growing, or either ever being watered and nurtured. The plant never stops reaching for the light. And a tree planted by water has thick roots and an ample supply of water. Well, I could go on, but I just wanted to encourage you in the Lord my friend. May Jesus bless you, and plant you, and keep you forever. Amen.
 
Please remember that all throughout the Bible there are testimonies of the many, MANY miracles that Jesus / God did and each one is a testimony. HE IS LORD! We are supposed to give testimony to what He has redeemed us from, not to glorify Satan but to glorify Almight God! If He's done miracles for you, TELL THE WORLD! Who knows who may be watching and listening and give their life to God and be redeemed from demons similar to yours of the past!
 
Dude, when you talk about your testimony be proud and happy about what God has saved you from. Shame comes from the Devil, Remember? Steal, Kill and distroy?
