I’ve been watching James Bond for a long time. I watched Burn Notice until the plot got too convoluted, and last night I watched the latest episode of Castle. In the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, Petyr Baelish claims that “the realm” doesn’t exist and that it is a lie. He claims that chaos is a ladder to power. You watch spy movies with twists and turns that are supposed to show the real “bigger picture.” World and International espionage is based in the idea that you’re with us or against us, seeking to fight for the “greater good.” The larger things get, people start to believe that the small picture is fake and the bigger picture is real. However, every time man looks at the bigger picture, he becomes lost in the unknown, the impossible, and the incomprehensible.

I have a theory; actually, I have a belief. In my Christian faith, I’ve come to believe that the “bigger picture” simply does not exist. The reason why it is all smoke and mirrors is because it is entirely man-made, fallible, and false. Only the small picture exists. Christian faith exists on the idea that our eternal Father in Heaven, who saw His people being doomed to an existence without Him and He without us, sent His only begotten Son into the world, to quote Paul, “to become sin for us.” He died upon a cross and won victory over death. Many a great theologian and Christian has stated that if only one man or woman ever existed, Christ still would have died upon the cross, because at the moment of His eternal glory, Jesus thought of us, individually. The Christian faith and walk only exists in the moment. In each moment, we sin or we don’t. In each moment, we love or we don’t. In each moment, we choose our next step. Free will exists in the present, not the past or the future. The past is decisions that are unalterable, and the future is an uncertain miasma of decisions yet to come. Exist in the moment, hear the birds sing of God’s glory, and watch the sun rise.

God was called the “Still, small voice” in the Old Testament. God is called, “Abba,” literally translated to “Daddy,” by His Son, Jesus Christ, who called us to do so also. This love is eternal, because for God there is no time, only now. The present for God is eternity, all things happening at once, but for us, we see only now. We think God sees the bigger picture, because He sees all time at the same time, but honestly, let’s give God more power, He is omnipotent. God sees every same thing, every second, every molecule, every decision, every movement, and every thought in a single moment. God looks at the small picture, and that is where his fingerprint lies.

Never look to the bigger picture because it simply does not exist. Look to the small moments, for there is the glory of God’s reality and yours.
