2 Timothy 4:3 For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears:

Here's the rest of the verse - to say what their itching ears want to hear. And shall abandon the truth and turn aside to myths. :D

Okay so the question then is, in this context.. who is the 'they'?

'They' will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, heap to themselves teachers and have itchy ears..

The "they" is everyone who do not endure sound doctrine, who develop their understanding of the word of God from You Tube, seminars, books, web-sites and hearsay, of which the world is currently being overrun with.

there are many who make the mistake of following man instead of our Savior.. directly or indirectly, some follow dead mans opinions others follow the opinions of living men, but we must follow our Savior , and no matter what any pastor may teach pray and study for yourself, like the Berians, just because Paul was an apostle it didn't prevent them from seeing for themselves what the truth was, we should question everything, no matter whop speaks or writes it.

1I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

You preach the gospel to sinners..... you preach/teach doctrine to saved people.

"Turning their ears from truth" indicates these were already walking in truth.

Paul is instructing Timothy how to minister to the house-churches in Ephesus.

This needs to be nailed-down to prevent confusion.

Really this only one possible interpretation of the passage. The Good Shepherd knows His sheep and His sheep know His voice and are obedient to His voice.

Unsaved souls hear the word of God and reject it turning to false gospels. Romans chapter one is a good presentation of this as well as John 3 where they turned from the light to darkness because their deeds were evil. Verse 21 or so in John 3.

Many profess that which they do not possess. Tares are those who never received Gods word in their soul but dismissed it in their heads. Many churches today preach a false doctrine of good works and deny that it is grace that saves.

Don’t forget the fourth verse, also:

[3] For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings,
[4] and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths. 2 Tim 4:1-2 RSV

man hears what he wants to hear and disregards all of the rest...

it's the 'whole-council' of God that we must 'listen to', Gen. to REV...

there are NO 'contradictions' in Scripture, the Scriptures do not WAR against themselves...

when we understand this, we begin to have and receive Godly clarity...
it takes time and it takes work, to learn the true ways of Jesus Christ...

Really? They much be those mythical kind and must hang around with all those teaching that we can be saved and sin all we want, because I can't recall seeing anyone saying "our works save us", I think the imaginary "our works save us" crowd needs to meet the "we can be saved by grace then sin all we want" guys in the streets and handle this disagreement "old school". Who is saying works save?

I am making an educational guess and say (they) are those who don't agree and follow what the op does.
The thread was intentional to provoke people just ignore it this thread holds no merit

My guess is, since this thread bothers you so much, you consider yourself part of the "They".
