i don't know you personally, but what i know of the younger generation is that they are being taught to accept and tolerate everything, so that there is no firm grounding in any truth at all, everyone's 'opinion' being equal and the worst cultural sin of the day standing firm in one's belief.

i hope that's not what you're trying to get us to do. it is a good rebuke that we need to be gentle, but it's foolishness to suggest that there is no such thing as "false teaching" or "heresy" -- that's false teaching of itself.
don't take me wrong. just think, if all i said was "good post" -- we wouldn't have anything else to say to each other, and there would be no further opportunity for us to be taught of each other. it's the nature of discussion that ideas and opinions are examined and the good held onto, while the not-so-good is thrown out. what would the forum be like if we always tried our best never to disagree with anyone? then all of us would be building houses out of smoke, ready to be blown away the instant someone has a contrary idea. i think it's good that we hold each other, and every teaching, to account - so it can be tested and tried, and the truth is firmly established.
i wish we would all learn not to fight against people, but against ideas and teachings and spiritual powers. it's not you i'm talking against, maybe not even against what you are saying - but against the idea of universal acceptance, which is the #1 so-called-virtue of the world these days.

I get your point and my understanding of scripture is conservative. My point is God looks beyond denominational b arriers. Some can't accept that one is a Baptist and one is a Methodist without raining fire and brimstone on people.

I am not. I will not compromise the truth that was taught by Jesus. Those who teach not the truth are heretics and should be called out.
The reason that the Lord's churches are in such a sad state today is because of compromise and people who do not have the backbone to stand up for truth no matter the cost.
Your Baptist church may be a Protestant, because many Baptist have adopted protestant beliefs and practices.
There are many that wear the name Baptist that have many different beliefs and practices.
I am a Landmark Baptist and I will not compromise.
oh, there are some universalists here. you should see those threads; people are not very kind to the idea, haha!
i think i know that thread you're talking about and i agree, a little handful of people that are carrying it on the last 20 pages or more should step back, thank their Shepherd, have some cookies, sing some psalms, and consider whether it's the idea that the Lord is able to keep them or not that they should be arguing about, or whether it's the actual things we ought to be doing in our lives as believers, because whether we believe in eternal security or not, how we should conduct ourselves in Christ is the same! whether it's for fear or for love! so it's a moot point, and it's really the Lord's to judge, not any of ours.
also, if it's the thread i'm thinking of, that's an example of a couple people who i think have been disputing in many threads for a long time, so it's not just from that one discussion that they're at odds with each other. i respect them both, and think they are both right about things, both misunderstood, and both ought to remember that they serve the same Lord.
overall it's like a wise man said,
"Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox."
i browse some other Christian forums where no one really debates or challenges anything people say - and there doesn't seem to be nearly as much life to them as there is where one is called on to make all kinds of defense whenever they make a controversial statement. in the middle of all that, everyone who remains gentle while keeping a firm hold on the Truth is an awesome witness of Christ working in them. it's a pity that the gentlest voices aren't the loudest, but they wouldn't be so gentle if they were, eh?
it's like you say, i can't judge everyone for being zealous - i can try to be a better witness of Christ myself, and look for Him in everyone else, instead of looking for specks in their eyes
