The Catholic Encyclopedia, II, page 263: "The baptismal formula was changed from the name of Jesus Christ to the words Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by the Catholic Church in the second century."
The forerunners of the Roman Catholic Church removed the all powerful name of Jesus from water baptism in 325 A.D. In addition consider they insist infants be given a name at baptism; preferably a saint’s name no less. Their reasoning is as follows:
“…there is a long and beautiful tradition as to why Catholics do present a saintly or biblical name for their child at Baptism, and why those who convert to Catholicism may choose to take an additional name when they are baptized.
A saint's name is the name of a saint given to individuals at their baptism or confirmation within the Catholic Church. It is believed that the saint whose name is chosen will serve as a special patron to protect, guide, and be the heavenly intercessor for, the individual who bears his or her name.
Name given at baptism gives sense of identity, belonging, pope says”

My first thought is this is repulsive! RCC officials have the audacity to influence people to look to mere mortal men as a replacement for the Lord Jesus Christ. And yes, again, that is repulsive!
Paul explained that in baptism a person is baptized into Jesus death. Paul also made it clear that a name was used in baptism; (1Cor 1:13-15) and that name was the name above all names; (1 Php 2:9) the one name whereby we must be saved; (Acts 4:12) the one that the whole family of God is identified by. (Eph 3:14-15) This truth is reflected in every record of baptism performed in the word. All were water baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Acts 2, 8, 10, 19…)
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Rom 6:3-4
Is your church on the Roman Catholic Church list of “daughter churches” that are accepted as Catholic because they use the titles, Father, Son and Holy Ghost rather than our Savior’s name during water baptisms? Many sincere lovers of the Lord Jesus have no idea they have submitted to a tradition rather than followed what is clearly commanded in the word.
