It is you who needs a basic course in Christianity. The tripartite view of man is a minority view in the Church. The vast majority of biblical scholars believe in a bipartite nature of man. The spirit and the soul are seen as one and the same thing, the non-material part of man.
If spirit and soul were one and the same, then Adam should not have survived after he ate the forbidden fruit. How come he lived for 930 years as per Gen. 5:5?
By seeking truth, finding Christ and reflecting the HS's love,
but the tripartite being differs from the bipartite being/soul = body + spirit in Gen. 2:7.
The change was accomplished by putting spirit first.

Heb. 4:12 says that the Word of God divides asunder the soul from the spirit - do you see the distinction between the soul and the spirit here?
In Gen. 2:7 which says, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.", the breath of God is the spirit, the dust of the ground is the body, and man becomes a "living soul".
I see that dividing/separating the soul = spirit + body from the spirit leaves the body lifeless.
Is that the distinction you see?
He might see that but dividing the soul and spirit is, in this case at least, the same as that of rightly dividing the word (And I'm going to say that without even going back to check and make sure). Ideally, when your soul becomes one with your spirit, you have then been made whole. IOW, you've gone from the unstableness of doublemindedness and come to singlemindedness and sanity.
The body becomes lifeless only when the spirit leaves the body. I'm not talking about any of that. What I mean is that the functions of the soul are very different from that of the spirit. The faculties of the soul are mind, will, and emotions while that of the spirit is conscience, intuition, and communion. In John 4:24, Jesus tells us to worship the Father in spirit and in Truth. Instead of worshiping in the spirit, we can worship with our emotions as well, but that is wrong. Emotions are part of the soul, not the spirit. When God transforms us, he begins in our spirit which will then be transmitted to our soul and body. However, when Satan tries to seduce us, he begins from our body and/or soul and then it affects our spirit. God works from the inside out, while Satan deceives us from the outside in.
I appreciate your attempt to identify some faculties (mind, will, emotions) with the soul and other faculties (conscience, intuition, communion) with the spirit, although I need to see what is your Scriptural support.
Gen. 2:7 indicates that all of those faculties are spirit, while the faculties of the body are instinct, eating and pooping,
which combine to comprise the soul.
Then we need to state how the HS faculty fits.
Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
All spirits go back to God regardless of how the person acted on earth.
So the spirit will not be saved because it does not need to be saved.
The spirit is not the soul and no person retains their spirit in the afterlife.
Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
The flesh is always sinful and cannot be saved.
Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.
The soul will be saved and receive a glorified body.
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
2Ti 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
If a person hates sin, and does not want sin, and allows the Spirit to lead them to be Christlike they will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
So there is no excuse and it is required of us.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This means allow the Spirit to lead you to abstain from sin.
Which means be blameless.
The spirit does not need to be saved.
The flesh cannot be saved.
The soul is saved.
The threefold salvation consists of Justification, Sanctification and Glorification, which are the beginning, process and end. They are easily remembered by three Ps -
Freed from the Penality of sin;
Freed from the Power of sin;
Freed from the Presence of sin.
A common yet deadly consequential misconception about salvation is rendering it as a one and done deal, that the Lord's crucifixion on the cross is only the first part. After that is the sanctification, which lasts a lifetime.

You are correct in most part except in certain areas. You said that the spirit need not be saved. When Adam fell into sin, his spirit died, but his soul continued to live. Therefore, this dead spirit needs to be resurrected. This happens as you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead as mentioned in Rom. 10:9. This resurrection of the spirit is also mentioned in Eph. 2:1,5.
The soul is atoned by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, for the soul to be saved, we need to place our faith in the blood of Jesus as mentioned in Rom. 5:9, Rom. 3:25, and Lev. 17:11.
The body is saved through water baptism as mentioned in Rom. 6:3,6-7
As you said, the flesh (bad behavior) cannot be saved. So, it must be crucified. This crucifixion happens as we walk in the Spirit. You rightly said, "allow the spirit to lead you to abstain from sin".
