Your statement is perfect, but I am speaking of the spirit, soul, and body.
By biblical definition, soul = body+spirit, the "spirit" herein is the HUMAN spirit, not the holy spirit, for everyone is born with a human spirit, only those who're born AGAIN are born with the holy spirit. "Soul" means "living being" "active" "vivid" in both Hebrew and Greek, it's NOT a separate entity residing in the body.

spirit and soul are distinct entities. Check 1 Thes. 5:23, Heb. 4:12, 1 Cor. 15:45, and Luk. 1:46-47

Jesus told us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Does that mean we are made up of 4 entities?
You are forcing Plato's view of man onto scripture.

Soul is not a separate entity. The first man BECAME a soul, not acquired a soul.
I agree on your point that the first man became a soul, not acquired a soul. But still, the soul and the spirit are distinct entities especially if you read Heb. 4:12 and Luk. 1:46-47.

Whenever the Bible speaks of "flesh", it is speaking about the activities of the soul. For example, Gal. 5:19-21. Also, Rom. 8 speaks of "walking in the flesh" versus "walking in the spirit".

Body (flesh) and spirit are two distinct entities, "soul" is not a distinct entity. The "trinity" of "body, soul, spirit" is a misconception based on Plato's philosophy, not biblical teaching. In the bible, body + (human) spirit = soul.

Well, Gen. 2:7 indicates that human souls are bipartite, comprised of body + spirit, but 1Thes. 5:23 confuses that concept by putting spirit first, making is sound tripartite.

Thanks, Paul!
(We can ignore Plato.)

This is called willful blindness because I have also given you other scriptures on which you haven't made any comment. Heb. 4:12 clearly speaks of the dividing of soul from the spirit. Luk. 1:46-47 clearly speaks of two distinct functions of the soul and the spirit. There are many other scriptures which make a distinction between soul and spirit, but this is enough for now.

Aren't you inquisitive of getting this confusion clarified? In Gen. 2:7 when the Bible says that Adam "became a living soul", it means that he was being guided by his soul unlike us who can be guided by the Holy Spirit.

The difference is the Holy Spirit. The spirit in 2:7 is human spirit, not the Holy Spirit. Actually it's not just human spirit, but life sustaining spirit, any animal that breathes is endowed with it.

Then just consider them left brain and right brain, the conscious and the subconscious, alright? "Soul" means "living being", "spirit" means "breath", without breath you'd be dead, you'd cease to be living, see Lk. 23:46 - "When Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit! ” Having said this, He breathed His last."

I agree that the soul is sustained by the spirit. Nevertheless, soul is distinct from the spirit in all its actions. The soul consists of mind, will, and emotions while the spirit consists of life principles deposited by God. Only the spirit can reach out to God, not the soul.

How do you account for spirit and soul being used interchangeably in both OT & NT ?

My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my savior.
When your soul magnifies the Lord, you are using your free-will to magnify the Lord. The result is the anointing. When the anointing comes upon you, your spirit will rejoice.

That's Platonic, not biblical.

So I was right in saying that you are willfully blind because you have completely chosen to ignore the scriptures I gave you.
The Scripture doesn't contradict itself. Anyone can cherrypick certain scriptures to espouse any view, therefore I choose to ignore your tactics. You wanna talk about scripture, let's talk about the summary of Lk. 1, the summary of Heb. 4, what the whole chapter of Lk. 1 is about, what the whole chapter of Heb. 4 is about. I can absolutely assure you that neither is arguing for the distinctness of soul. Unless you can prove they are, you deserve to be ignored.

Psalm 42:11 -
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me?
hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

May I know who is speaking to who, here?
