Season 3 of XO Kitty is now on Netflix, and I watched the first 2 episodes.
I have been following it - spin off to All the Boys I loved Before, featuring the youngest sister (there are 3) Kitty.
LJ is the middle and Margot is the eldest.
'
Kitty is an international exchange student at KISS - Korean Independent School of Seoul

@seoulsearch just saying it reminded me of you - or at least your name.

And it's kind of an American K-drama! There is even a pseudo K-pop band storyline in it.

Thing is the actress who plays Kitty isn't truly Korean, she's Chinese/Irish. In XO Kitty, she loses her glasses, turns pretty, and attracts all the boys (and girls) but the main story arc is her search for...true love.

I have just reached the episode where she has a big smooch with her beloved. But don't worry, it's all innocent so far, well at least for Kitty, as she's now in her senior year of high school.

The weird thing is, she's going to this International School, but so far she hasn't spoken one sentence in Korean. All the Korean actors speak Korean, but to her they speak English. In varying accents from American to British.

I'm like OK so how's she going to understand the lingo of her Korean bf if she never bothers to learn - at least get a phrasebook!

Well actually the side plot is her search for her dead mother's teenage years spent at that very same school, but that's sort of wrapped up in season 2 when she finds her grandparents.

I like watching it cos never been to Seoul and only really seen it when they had Olympics on tv many many years ago, but in the movie and TV series they actually go there and film there.

There's this tower thing they go to that has locks put there by lovers and its all very romantic, and as they are teens they have all the 'feelings' which really is just raging hormones they don't know how to control cos well, they are still learning. They don't really go to this school to study real subjects, they go to this school to learn about romance. Hence acronym KISS.

It's sort of like the Love Boat, but set in an International Korean high school.

Ha she starts to learn a bit of Korean, as she has to do a Korean lit paper to graduate. Her bf can teach her.

This made me wonder, for the girls, what do you think your boyfriends taught you? I suppose we often think how cool it is to spend time with a bf and to be an object of their affections, but maybe there's other things we have learned from all the boys we've loved before, whether it's to spit like a man..how to catch a fish, or how to change a tyre...IDK.

If anyone is reading this thread... I can't be the only one who watches YA rom coms.

Sometimes you can learn some things people never intended to teach you.

"Because of you I never stray
Too far from the sidewalk
Because of you I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you I find it hard to trust
Not only me but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

Hmm Ok
I learned that kissing spreads germs
And if you want your heart broken, give it to a boy
Also silence is golden, boys don't talk much and would prefer it if girls shut up
I wish boys would have taught me something useful ....like I don't know, how to parallel park, or how to make sticky ribs, how to throw a ball really far away or something like that.

But mostly I learned all my skills from women, or reading books, and maybe watching you-tube videos. Otherwise the things I learned I just had to figure out myself.

in the All the Boys I loved before movie, Lara Jean gets the boy (Peter) and learns how to be a 'good girlfriend' Good girlfriends, according to this movie, go to their boyfriends sports events and cheer them on.

Good girlfriends submit to whatever the boyfriend wants to do. They let the boyfriend drive, and the boy plan the dates. They forgive them when they are late/don't show up. They wear their boyfriends lockets/necklaces, or jewellery. Good girlfriends wear pretty dresses all the time and hang out with their boyfriends at every opportunity. They answer all their texts. They don't see other boys. They bake and let the boyfriend have first dibs on the cookies.

Being a good girlfriend sounds exhausting, always waiting around for the boyfriend to do something, pick you up, pay for everything and with the expectation when the boy gives you a ride home, that you are going to make out with them as a thank you. Good girlfriends hold hands with their boyfriends, even if they are grown up and don't need hand-holding. Good girlfriends even try to fix their boyfriends family dysfunction to the point where they'll consider having babies with them to create new family, and offer them a place to sleep using their bosoms for a pillow.

Good girlfriends declare their love for their boyfriend and have public displays of affection, to let everyone else know what a good boyfriend they have.

I actually had a boyfriend the other way around!

He talked so much, that my vision would glaze over and I'd mentally shut down.

So when that happened, he was basically running a monologue and talking to himself, lol! 😵‍💫🤣

eek I know a guy like that in church. One of the elder ladies tried to matchmake me with him, but he just talked so much I couldn't get a word in edgewise, and the annoying thing was he'd try to say stuff he believed I was thinking, when I was not.

And then he'd tell me stuff about myself that I already knew and didn't need him to say.

OK so continuing on with my diatribe....

In the second movie called Ps I love you

LJ and new beau Peter run into some problems. Another boy is on the horizon...who will LJ choose??
Also Peter's affections for LJ become a bit lame. He's already done the gf thing before with his previous, LJ's rival, Gen.
It's all new to LJ though. So she's gone on a first date, they've enjoyed each others company...and then...this other boy shows up who she'd written a love letter to that got sent.

How can she explain that...to Peter and to the new guy John Ambrose?

Just as an aside, the kind of dates they go on -- first formal date is to a fancy Italian restaurant. LJ dresses up.
Second date is to a fairground. They go on rides and win prizes at the sideshows.
Third date...I think they watch a movie at home and Peter saves the popcorn from spilling everywhere.
Fourth date...They release sky lanterns and LJ writes in a love heart LJ 4 PK
(sorry they may be out of order, trying to remember them)
Fifth date, LJ plans a night at the bowling alley, and even matching outfits. I think it's meant to riff off the Big Lebowski movie, which I've never seen...

I remember they couldn't agree on the movie so LJ wrote a list and Peter wrote a list, and they either watched one they both wanted to see, or they watched one LJ wanted, but then next time Peter would choose the one he wanted. That was part of their fake dating pact.

I don't think it really mattered what kind of movie they saw, it was more, the holding hands and cuddling part of sitting next to each other in a movie theatre or watching on the tv is the reason for a movie date!

Ha on XO Kitty season 3 LJ the sister makes an appearance when Kitty's love life blows up.

Will Kitty and M---- be endgame? I only have two more episodes to go....
What about LJ and Peter? They are 5000 miles apart in an LDR. Things aren't working out.

How about Eunice and Dae? Q and Marius? Yuri and Juliana ? Praveena and Juliana ? Alex and Jiwon? Jin and Q? Madison and every Korean boy that isn't mentioned?

The plot thickens. Teens in their senior year sure get around.
I don't remember anything about my senior year.
