James 4: 6-10

6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[c]

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

To be humble in the walk with Christ is for me to put my self last and Christ first. Does that mean that God humiliates me? No. God loves me and would never humiliate me. And neither should a husband humiliate his wife. Yes. I believe a husband should be the head of the family. And to humble myself in a marriage is not the same as being humiliated. A wife does that of her own will and out of love.

If a husband needs to humiliate his wife, that is a perversion and has nothing to do with love. Sadly some men see it as their God-given right to humiliate women. And some women think it is their right to do so. But that is not to follow Christ. You should always have only one Master, and that is our Lord Jesus. And a husband can never take Christ's place in my life.

To be humble is the opposite of being proud. And neither a man or a woman should be boastful of their own actions or themselves. You are precious in God's eyes when you humble yourself and He will build you up to His glory. That is not humiliation but love in it's uttermost pure form.
