I have a history of overdrinking alcohol for various reasons, not daily drinking of alcohol but when I drink I drink to much.

Not always but often.

I gave my self a drinklimit of nomore than 2 drinks but have on a couple occasions broken that limit.
A glass of wine with dinner can be nice but if that becomes a whole bottle thats not so good.

I started drinking alcohol when I was 13 had depressions etc (started smoking then also) (quit now though)and ended up being used sexually against true will etc.

Am now thinking of "being good" or better and to stop drinking alcohol all 2gether.
I enjoy the taste and so forth.
But I enjoy the taste of sweet kisses more.

Am thinking maybe I should have my favorite drinks one last time (not all at once) and then give it up for good.
Put the money on other more positive , uplifting things and find other drinks to drink like fresh juices.(healthier)

Start exercising again (2 yrs absence) and start new and fresh entirely.
Sometimes I drank alcohol if was lonely and hurting and the list is to long to write here.
Maybe I only had alcohol once every three months sometimes but when i did it was to much and my person reacted badly "out of control" :)

Specially for those who have a "past" they dont react so well often to alcohol.

So, I shall have my last favorite drinks such as maybe have a cold beer a hot summer day or a glass of wine with dinner or a cocktail anothr night (ill be busy ) and then not touch alcohol again.

I will be encouraged and supported with this.
I quit smoking so I can quit drinking alcohol (even if it was never daily...)

Do you drink alcohol at all?
I guess if you do its probably in a beautiful manner( as should be)

Hi

Thank you for your frank sharing.

I encourage you to cotninue fighting the good fight and overcome your alcoholic battle. God wants you to be free, and so do I.

Your problem is not the alcohol, but ADDICTION.

I drink; wine, beer and even whiskey. I enjoy them but strictly no addiction. The challenge comes when we face problem and become depressed, we resort to alcohol. It is one way to become addicted. What can you do instead?

1. Go to God for comfort
2. Live a practical life; don't be alone, go out and make CHristian friends. Take up a sports and sweat it out.
3. (If you are married); I go to my wife for counselling and comfort. She listens to me and prays for me.

For the time being, until you know you have overcome it, stop all alcohol first.:p

Press on, brother!:)

I don't drink because I seem to be allergic to alcohol, but I just want to say that I am glad you want to do something about this, Victoria!

I suggest that whenever you go to a party or somewhere that you ask one of your friends to stop you if you start drinking more than 2 drinks (or however many you think is ok).

I always encourage anyone to stop/not start drinking alcohol. yes, i'm aware the 'technically' its not a sin. but fact is it is a potential danger. i have a close friend who likes to have a glass of wine or 2 a few times a week. i discouraged her from it, since she had a family history of alcoholism, especially. she insisted it was no big deal. she just 'drank to relax'. she never got tipsy. etc etc.. but the problem came that when stress hit her life her reaction was to start getting drunk. And as a result of that she made bad choices while drunk that ended up effecting her even after she stopped getting drunk. So now shes living with guilt and other consequences that stem from her casual drinking that she had 'under control'.
Chances are if she wasn't drinking she wouldn't have ended up in that situation. So yeah, just one example to show how easily you can be taken over by it. So i'd rather just stay away and it never be a problem for me, nor a risk, or temptation. And yes, i know, some people are capable of drinking and never turning to it during times of trouble, but to believe its not able to happen to you, because you are 'in control of it' is foolishness. There is no guarantee.
So to the OP i say good for you, if you want to quit all together. And even better to want to get in shape and take care of your body. As far as the suggestion of having friends with you to stop you, i don't suggest that. Its obvious you have a problem with drinking. To tell someone who has a problem to keep drinking makes no sense whatsoever. And you can't always rely on a friend to bail you out. What if your friend has already drank more than you and can't be trusted to help? What if they try to help but you push through and drink more anyways? What kind of awkward position does that leave that friend in? Also, it could be God prompting her to quit, telling her to keep drinking could easily be going against what God is instructing her to do.

As soon as anything becomes a problem in your life it's time to give it up, but it is also possible to overreact and make big changes when it's uneccesary, finding the balance is difficult.

I don't drink because I find about 2% of alcoholic beverages palatable, to me wines and spirits are just way too strong in flavour to be enjoyable.

If you like alchoholic drinks and have never struggled with alcoholism then I don't think you need to give up alchohol, that said if you do have a tendency to drink more than you ought too when you're out with friends etc.. then you need to consider if you feel you are capable of drawing a line and stopping sooner or if you can't, and if you can't it's best you stop.

One of the reasons I don't drink beer anymore is because I am so unused too alchohol in my system that it only takes two drinks before my judgement is compromised enough that I could drink another 5 without realising I am going too far, and I don't like feeling that close to the edge when I am supposed to be enjoying myself, it just makes me worry, and hangovers, despite the 'fun' side people associate with them, have no fun side at all.

I've never been much of a drinker for two reasons:

1. Several people in my family had a HUGE issue with it (and drugs as well) and I didn't want that in my life; and
2. As an officer, I felt that it would be hypocritical to arrest someone for abusing alcohol/creating a hazard for others if I did it myself. I've had to tell too many families that mom, dad, wife, husband, child, etc wouldn't be coming home ever again.

Now that I'm no longer a cop, I have one drink maybe 4-5 times per year. I don't weigh much, so it wouldn't take much for me to become impaired. When I do have a drink, it's because I like the taste of whatever it is, not because the goal is to become drunk.

Somethings you need to go directly to God with..Find out if He wants "you in particular" to have any dealings with alcohol.

If you are under the age of 70, I feel (personal opinion here) that you should not drink alcohol.

If you are over 70, you are old enough to know what you are doing, but I would urge you to cut back lol.

:) :D Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I love this post!!! :D :)

I have posted on other drinking threads.........I have run out of words to describe how I feel on the subject. I just want to say, it has hurt my family it ways I don't like to think about, let alone see and deal with. I pray for everyone who has a problem with alcoholism to be able to get the help they need, and the sooner the better. Some people do not have a problem with the disease, but for those who do, most do not know it till it is hard to be helped. It is better not to risk it.
