I believe that one of the greatest gifts from the Holy Spirit is the gift of discernment. When decisions look crystal clear. One clear differentiation between life before and after the Holy Spirit.

Hello Everyone,
I would like to write and discuss About the spirit of discernment here. Experiences, words from Meditation, and life experiences are welcome.
In 1 John 2 the apostle John tells Christians that they have an unction or anointing of the Holy Spirit and *know all things*. He goes on to say that this anointing includes the truth that the Holy Spirit reveals, in order to teach us all (spiritual) things. Then in chapter 4 we have this warning:

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Those who deny that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh are primarily those who deny that He is fully God and fully sinless Man, but also includes the whole doctrine of Christ. That He died on the cross for the sins of the whole world, and rose again for our justification. That eternal life is God's gift to the one who repents and believes on Him, and receives Him as Lord and Savior.

This tells us that there is a spiritual battle that is ongoing, and some spirits are of God and others come from Satan. Christians are to try or test all spirits (which are manifested through so-called prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers). This is where spiritual discernment is required, in order to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But Christians can only separate God's truth from Satan's lies if they have firstly studied the Word of God carefully, and are grounded and settled in Bible truth and Gospel truth. Which means that new Christians should be properly taught Bible doctrine and also discipled by mature Christians. This is generally absent in even many evangelical and fundamentalist churches.

Today there are a multitude of false teachings being promoted on radio, television, and the Internet. This Christian Forum is a good example. Therefore we are to "Prove all things, and hold fast to that which is good" (1 Thess 5:21).

The gift of the Holy Spirit to the Spirit-filled Pentecostal church is not discernment but rather the discerning of spirits ...

1Corinthians 12:10
(DRB) To another the working of miracles: to another, prophecy: to another, the discerning of spirits: to another, diverse kinds of tongues: to another, interpretation of speeches.
(ESV) to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
(KJV) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
(LITV) and to another, workings of powers, and to another, prophecy, and to another, discerning of spirits, and to another, kinds of languages, and to another, interpretation of languages.
(Weymouth) to another the exercise of miraculous powers; to another the gift of prophecy; to another the power of discriminating between prophetic utterances; to another varieties of the gift of 'tongues;' to another the interpretation of tongues.

this discerning of spirits is a gift distributed to the saints (if open to using this gift) in a Pentecostal church to protect truth
from deceit (the work of the enemy).

Waggles is right. Pray for the gift if you wish, God may or may not give it to you if He esteems it is not for you.

The gift of discerning of spirits can be a very overwhelming gift. Sometimes it means that you will be able to detect or see things you don't want to see, and sometimes these things will take a disturbing disgusting appearance. Think about all evil that God's eyes see, we would really go crazy if it all took shape in front of us. The gift is very helpful, but not necessarily pleasant to use.

But by learning from the Scriptures and praying you might be able to improve your spiritual eyes.
