For those who wonder why people submit to being rebaptized in water...

I was water baptized twice. Once in the traditional phrase, and the second time in the name of the Lord Jesus. Was it necessary? Yes. Why? Because obedience to God's commands always hold significance. And many times only after stepping out in faith and obeying God does He provide revelation.

After becoming aware that the apostles never water baptized people using the phrase in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. And that the tradition was actually begun by the forerunners of the Roman Catholic Church in 325 A.D. I believed and obeyed the command as referenced in scripture. Remember it was Jesus who said following man-made traditions results in making God's word of none effect. (null and void)(Mark 7:13)

Prior to the established man-made tradition all water baptisms were done in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Acts 2:38-41, 8:12-18, 10:43-48, 19:1-7, 22:16) Upon realization of the truth, it became clear that the apostles were obeying Jesus' command in Matthew 28:19 by baptizing in His name.

Also consider that Paul commanded the Ephesus disciples to be rebaptized after becoming aware that they had only submitted to John's baptism. The group was rebaptized by Paul who administered baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus. Afterward all twelve received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues and prophesied. (Acts 19:1-6) It was also Paul who stated the following about using the name of Jesus in connection with baptism: "Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name." Also relevant to this topic is Paul's explanation in Romans 6:3-6 concerning what takes place when a person is baptized; they are being baptized into Jesus' death wherein their sins are destroyed.

After acceptance and obedience to God's word, many receive revelation concerning scriptures that reveal God's established purpose for water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus:

"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." Acts 22:16

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." Acts 10:43
