nine o’clock comes in so solemn

green dollar signs glitter like gold

focused on growing a fortune

long ago as it was foretold

why, oh why does man march on

going his way, tooting his horn

all the while toward hell he’s bound

as God’s tears roll on down

wounded hearts mean and offensive

morality lies far away

seeking their own fleshly pleasures

so sad is the ancient of days

why, oh why does man march on

going his way, tooting his horn

all the while toward hell he’s bound

as God’s tears roll on down

corruption, power, and envy

grip the souls of those who are lost

controls the path of ambition

patterns repeat, time and again

why, oh why does man march on

going his way, tooting his horn

all the while toward hell he’s bound

as God’s tears roll on down

rejection, denial come fast

God’s hand is ignored once again

peace does He offer completely

few ever follow His wise lead

why, oh why does man march on

going his way, tooting his horn

all the while toward hell he’s bound

as God’s tears roll on down
