About 3 years ago my cousin confided some deep desires to me about wanting to be a boy. She said all the kids in her 7th/8th grade class were bisexual. She told me it became apparent when her crush (male) stopped liking her for a bisexual girl. That was the moment when she started giving this transgender thing a real thought.
I prayed with her about the issue, but when she started having crushes on the girls at church, I told her mom (my aunt). I showed my aunt her blog with rants about how she'd like to be a boy to kiss or be with another girl. Because of this, my cousin no longer confides in me. She scoffs when I or anyone else refers to her by her birth name, or as "daughter" or "she".
She has gone so far as to purchase vests that flatten your chest, and has cut all her lovely curly blonde hair off. I am distraught. Just don't know what to do. I told my pastor but he recommended a christian counselor outside our church to help keep the matter private. My aunt never sought the help of a counselor, and dismissed it as a phase. My aunt does not know how serious it is, my cousin cuts (self harms) and she stopped going to church. I know God is great, but my cousin is going to be 16 this June, and she doesn't even want a sweet 16! It's that serious. Besides prayer and fast, what can we do?
Please keep my cousin Natalia and our family in prayer. Advice is most graciously welcomed. Thank you!
