That is a pretty big philosophical question. But I think in some cases it is fine. For instance, hiding a surprise b-day party. I am sure there are alot of examples but, I think in most cases the truth is more appropriate than being deceitful.

Mmm... Well I'd rather keep quiet than tell a lie. Coz as far as am concerned lieing is a sin, and if you lie once it ALWAYS starts growing. You do have a third option anyway, keep quiet. Haha. God bless

Yeah, true. Keeping quiet about something isn't lying. That's what I prefer, if I don't want to tell somebody something.
I wouldn't lie if I was asked directly about the thing though. I prefer to never lie.

Why does the title bring up wisdom? Is it cause hiding truths are considered wise sometimes?

Sins of omission can be just as wrong and devastating as straight lies.

Ok let me present a scenario.
Let's say someone comes to your dearly beloved fiancée to tell them how they feel about them, in the name of getting the truth off their chest: would that be appropriate?

I would say no...Because if somebody is already engaged, it isn't any of their business how some third person feels about them, because they're already emotionally committed to marrying someone. It seems the third person want to get the truth off their chest for selfish reasons, not noble reasons.

Though it's still debatable because they're not technically married I guess, and you didn't mention a background story of the third person and their history with the fiancée, but that above is just my opinion.

It's the second world war, and you can save many lives by saying your not hiding Jews..........I'd feel more comfortable saving the lives

That scenario? Is there even a question?
It's grossly inappropriate. This isn't and can't be compared to omission that hides sin.

(to clarify my own statement)
Of course coveting is a sin, and omitting that knowledge "hides sin". But there is a vast difference in seeking advice and Godly counsel from an appropriate respondent, by contrast to telling bride to be.

,,Telling the truth and making someone cry is better than telling a lie and making someone smile."

But ... here I'm talking about spiritual truth...
Since what do you mean with ' truth' ?
To wear your heart on your sleeve, definitely is not always wise!
Since isnt the heart often deceived?

After reading the OP, the first thing that came to my mind here is casting pearls before swine.

Matthew 7:6
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

That is not to say that telling the truth is ever inappropriate.....

Jesus is the truth, and it is never ever EVER inappropriate to tell about Him.

John 8
32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Good point. I've made that mistake before about a year ago, because I had some revelations about some things, and was feeling naively inspired to share. To this day it still haunts me sometimes. I want my pearls back. :(

I think this most often occurs when you have a personal revelation to share that somebody else has not experienced. I have also had pearls trampled on right in front of my face and then been personally attacked, not phsysically, but by words. It has even happened here in the forums....

The thing is, I had always been easily inspired by other people's revelations, or "pearls" if you will, even if they had not yet happened to me. Other people's positive AH-HA moment stories were often like food for me. They would cling to my heart, even if I could not apply them to my life right away.
so for that reason I assumed other people were like me in that way.
WRONG. :o
Turns out it makes people mad.

Every thing and every truth has it's time. ( ...Eccl. 3:1 tells us there is a time for every purpose under heaven)

This doesn't mean it's not true when it's in wrong timing, it's just not right. The two go hand in hand. Everything God does is right and at the right time. We should try to be the same, waitng on God sometimes for the slightest instant to see if there is a check in our spirit, to be sure we are acting in his grace.

Best wishes to you all, in the love of Christ.

Is there ever a time when telling the truth is inappropriate?

sure if God tells you or places it in your heart to remain silent then it would be inappropriate to speak of matters He has told you not to. just pray and ask God about it.

here are some examples:

2 Corinthians 12
1 It is doubtless[a] not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Revelation 10:4
Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”
