This is going to be super long! Thank you to those who choose to read it. This is form memory what was taught today. It's a mixture of what was read in the lesson, words our teacher said and my own understandings.

Today in relief society we talked about some things, and forgive me for not remembering the name of the topics, but what was talked about is sticking with me and I would like to talk about the first part of the lesson tonight. I feel this lesson can apply to anyone in life whether you are religious or not.

We discussed the "turbulence" of life. We tend to go in frantic paces in our lives. With personal responsibilities, things in our careers and jobs, school life and even our relationships. These things happen because we are either filling too much on our plates, feel we don't have enough time to get things done and some may think that their self-worth depends on the length of their to-do list.

An airplane analogy was shared during the lesson: "What do pilots do when they encounter turbulence? A student pilot may think that increasing speed is a good strategy because it will get them through the turbulence faster. But that may be the wrong thing to do. Professional pilots understand that there is an optimum turbulence penetration speed that will minimize the negative effects of turbulence. Most of the time that would mean to slow down.

"It is good advice to slow down a little, steady the course, and focus on the essentials when experiencing adverse conditions."

What Is the Solution?
Resist the temptation to get caught up in the frantic rush of everyday life. Simplicity is best. There is a beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions.

Leonardo da Vinci is quoted as saying that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” When we look at the foundational principles of the plan of happiness, the plan of salvation, we can recognize and appreciate in its plainness and simplicity the elegance and beauty of our Heavenly Father’s wisdom. Then, turning our ways to His ways is the beginning of our wisdom.

Another analogy was shared, but I wasn't fast enough to catch it all. The bases of the analogy was a football coach who went through the fundamentals of the football game, he did this because the players can spend their time going through game play and practicing tricks, but until they mastered the fundamentals, they wouldn't the master the game into victory.

Sometimes, we have to learn the basics of something in our lives to master it. In times of turbulence, remember your basics.

Now we're diving into the part where Jesus and our Heavenly Father come in.
The basics to our relationship with the gospel, Jesus Christ and our Heavenly father require, prayer, going to church and meeting, spoken words of the living prophet and reading the scriptures. It's so easy for the basic gospel message to get lost amidst all the chaos in our lives.

I believe in what this lesson is teaching. We can get so distracted by our own lives we end up neglecting the important things in our lives. Whether it is causing distractions from God or from your personal relationships with your family, partner, children, career or school. We need to be able to reflect on our positions in the important areas of our lives and work on finding balance in our responsibilities.

This is what I've been able to reflect on and remember from today's lesson. The way to get through the turbulence in our lives, is to practice and work on the fundamentals/basics, slow down, remember simplicity. Work towards that, and eventually you can master your responsibilities in life without a frantic state.
