Turning someone down...

In your opinion, what is the best way to let someone who has expressed strong interest in you, know that you don't want to go there, while still retaining the friendship?

Someone that I've been friends with since I was 15 and kept in touch with off and on over the past few years has just recently expressed "feelings" for me. He doesn't love God and his life shows it. He's sweet and a good friend but not someone that I would consider for anything beyond that friendship. I just don't quite know what to say. I'm pretty good about letting someone down easily if I don't know them that well but in order to tell this to a dear friend whom I do care about......I dunno. I'm at a loss. I guess I could still just do the up front and honest thing and just tell him everything that I just said pretty much. lol

Any help would be most welcome. :D
 
Nevermind. I prayed about it and figured out what I needed to do. Can I delete this thread? lol
 
Oh yeah. I've had that happen before too. Someone wanted to start going to church for me. Not so big on that one. It has to be his conviction and decision.

lol. Well I had replied but it let me delete mine. I think you went past that initial 5 minutes or so it lets you edit or delete.

edit: Actually, I guess you saw that reply before it was deleted. :)
 
Yeah I saw your reply. :D But now I look like a crazy person for replying to nothing. Thanks a lot. haha

I just told him that I didn't think it would be wise to enter into any sort of relationship because we are on a completely different level spiritually. He asked me how and so I asked him what he thought about God. He gave me an answer that, of course, was nothing that would convince me, and so I told him what I believe about God and His character. He tried to tell me that other than spiritually we were on the same level with everything but I told him that the spiritual level is the MOST IMPORTANT to me and that if that isn't lined up, it won't be good. So he agreed and it's all good. :D

Looking like a crazy person isn't all bad. It gives you all kinds of freedom to say random things without anyone wondering why. :D
You could just claim you read my mind. ha

Ladies please never EVER say we can be friends. Never have I found someone who uttered those words ever be a friend. Now not feeling attraction is one thing and should be said honestly. Sometimes softening the blow is an insult to ones inteligence. Just say it like pulling a band aid off. A minute of pain is worse than the animosity you feel. I forgive for that but save yourself the grief.
 
I was know all my life and the "crash and burn king" for being turned down by all femals. I found then they being say we can be friends is a blow, but at least you know, with time you can still be friends! Ya its hard but at least you still have a friend when the pride bruising is healed. I think you told him well and maybe with time he will find god!! I start that climb to the level you are! I dont know if that help at all!!
