I'll talk about something new...
2 sides of the same coin.
Identity - this is a very big revelation on the Earth right now which is teaching who we are in Christ. It is necessary because we have Scriptures that say all creation is waiting for the sons of glory, emphasis sons. Also Eve was deceived because the enemy caused her to doubt God's goodness and purpose for her life.
Eve, you need to know good and evil because God doesn't want you to be like Him. Sound familiar? You're not a new creation or in Christ so you have to know the right things to do and the wrong. This leads to pride because it us self exaltation it happens we don't trust we are made in His image and we can not trust what He says.
But there is another side to this coin too.
Intimacy - this is knowing God, and as we discover who He is we see the our original design blueprint. We see what our joyful obedience through our new nature in Him looks like. Intimacy takes us into this joyful obedience by knowing the love of God. His love for us births and intensifies our love for Him. Our experiences with His goodness and kindness causes us to turn joyfully from the heart towards Him.
If we only understand the identity side our understanding comes through our own efforts. It's our ability to be convinced by God that is our focus on this side.
If we only understand the intimacy side then we believe we need to convince God. Our prayers are only petitions, because we don't understand the promises of God and what He has already done on the cross. It's our ability to convince God is the focus on this side.
The Son died and promises in Him were made available to us as joint heirs in Christ.
But it is the Spirit of God who convicts us of righteousness. He leads us. He declares what the Son gives Him. And our obedience proves the perfect will of God.
Both are right, but incomplete without each other.
Similar tensions like this exist all through put Scripture. Almost contradictory. These contradictions are indications of heart realities. Places that either or logic can't give us the full understanding of His truth. We must embrace the world of where these almost contradictions both are true.
He is both loving and just.
We are His Son and His Servant.
We are His Body and His Bride.
We are saved and being saved.
These contradictions take us into fuller truths that the natural mind can not go. It abhors them. Logic can not easily accept a place where all of these ideas are true. This is why they must be experienced. And why we need one another and discipleship. We experience God through each other which leads us into new understandings of who He is through the one Spirit teaching through each of us and in each of us. Knowing His voice takes deeper into spiritual things accessing the mind of Christ.
