Army Reserve training material lists Catholics, evangelical Christians and some Jews in 'religious extremism' category along with the KKK, Hamas and Al Qaeda | Mail Online

From the Article:
Later in the slideshow is a list of groups that exemplify 'religious extremism.'
Included are 'evangelical Christianity,' 'Catholicism,' 'Ultra-Orthodox' Judaism, and 'Islamophobia.'
Most of the list is populated by more widely accepted examples of religious extremist groups, including Al Qaeda, Sunni Muslims, Hamas, and the Ku Klux Klan.

I would tend to agree. Evangelical christians are normally the ones that have had members bomb abortion clinics or murder doctors. You dont see that nonsense from the more mainline protestant congregations.

You must not be a Christian. Christians don't do such things because we are commanded not to.

You dont see that nonsense from the more mainline protestant congregations.

Indeed. You are referring to the dead western churches of this great apostasy.
Falling Away or Apostasy

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Truth does have a way of inflaming the unregenerate. It is like hot coals dumped on their heads.
So evangelicals should remain silent about what's going on in the world?
JIHAD

Be quiet about the 105,000 to 180,000 Christians martyred around the world every year the way the media is? Catholics should just let Islamic mass murder go, and quietly turn the other way, while facebook censors the photo of the bodies of the 500 Christian men, women and children that were burned alive by Muslims in their church in Nigeria, while sanctioning the priest that uploaded it?

**photo edited**

"Muslims are determined to impose their 'religion' all over Africa as well as in other continents and countries of the world. Islam has but one goal: rule the world at any cost!"
"And where are the International Human Rights Organizations?
Christians are burnt alive in Nigeria, a horrific Holocaust right in front of International indifference as denounced by Father Juan Carlos Martos on behalf of the Missionari Clarettiani via del Sacro Cuore di Maria, Rome, Italy."
"To my great surprise, Facebook has criticized me for the publication of this graphic document as a proof of the Holocaust that Christians have been suffering in Nigeria in the last ten years. According to Facebook's Security policy of the 'social' Network, this photo has been classified as 'pornographic', 'violent' or 'inappropriate' and hence I was disallowed to publish any picture for a week. And I was threatened drastic measures if I insist publishing any document that prove the terrible violations of Human Rights in Nigeria." (link to article at United Copts)

Perhaps pretend that the 20,000 deadly Islamic terror attacks just since 9-11 aren't continuing to happen?

what does this have to do with anything i posted? You realize not all christians are evangelical and some non-evangelical christians view those that are as negative representations of our faith. The fact that the government is finally calling them out on their nonsense doesnt surprise me. I personally am a mainline protestant, mostly ascribing to the UMC.

These types of news articles makes one think...
Luke 6:22-23 said:
Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

Mark 13:11-13 said:
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

It's going to come one day, and the way we are headed it might even be sooner than you think.
Take it from Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyers who faced massive persecution in Romania:

Does the Gospel message belong in the Armed Services? You can't pretend that Jesus was a war-monger to suit your political war-mongering agenda. I hear of army chaplains embedded with troops and I think, Why? What's the point? These guys are out there to do some pretty horrific things, so why let them believe that they are righteous for doing them? The message Jesus Christ brought us is one of peace and brotherhood. Don't lie to the soldiers!

Indeed. Isn't the "nonsense" of those dirty evangelicals simply awful, as compared to institutional church pew occupying?!!!

adjective 1. Also, e·van·gel·ic. pertaining to or in keeping with the gospel and its teachings.

2. belonging to or designating the Christian churches that emphasize the teachings and authority of the Scriptures, especially of the new testament, in opposition to the institutional authority of the church itself, and that stress as paramount the tenet that salvation is achieved by personal conversion to faith in the atonement of Christ.

No wonder.

Does the Gospel message belong in the Armed Services?

Actually many of our service members carried the sword of the Spirit into Afghanistan. They were giving bibles translated into local dialects as host gifts when they were invited into Afghani houses. Our military later found out and collected them all up from our boys, and burned them. Basically surrendering and conforming our poor boys over there to the powers of darkenss.
How different might things be going if had been dropping millions of tracts of the Gospel of John out of drones, or other aircraft, throughout the Middle East. Followed perhaps by little notes encouraging them to ask their Imams to present all of the historical and archaeological evidence that suggests that Mecca ever existed before the 4th century AD. Then maybe follow that with some tracts of the First Epistle of John to close.
It is pretty difficult when one lone Muslim is quickened by the Spirit. In some places it is a death sentence if others find out. But what if they all received tracts of the Gospel simultaneously, and everybody knew it?

You can't pretend that Jesus was a war-monger to suit your political war-mongering agenda. I hear of army chaplains embedded with troops and I think, Why? What's the point? These guys are out there ......

They are only "out there" to you because you happen to live a cushy life in the west, and don't happen to have been born in a place like this:

AP - December 06, 2006 MOGADISHU, Somalia - "Residents of a southern Somalia town who do not pray five times a day will be beheaded, an Islamic courts official said Wednesday, adding the edict will be implemented in three days."

Two million slain or displaced by Muhammadans in the Sudan alone.

........ to do some pretty horrific things, so why let them believe that they are righteous for doing them? The message Jesus Christ brought us is one of peace and brotherhood.

So what do you do when you look out your window, and you see a moral reprobate run up to the widow next door, knock here down on her front yard, and begin to rape her? Close your drapes and consider it a matter between the two of them? Stand there and watch them while shouting the Gospel at the unregenerate?

Don't lie to the soldiers!

People who think of themselves as Christian have done such things (and worse), which reflects badly on them and not on Christ.

This is just a continuation of the Crusades. If there's one thing I know about Middle Eastern Muslims is that they are extraordinarily hostile to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Unless your ulterior motive is war, there's no point in trying to evangelize those people. You can't spread the Gospel with guns and tanks and bombs.

That's not my fault! You can't blame that on me!

Nothing remotely like that has ever happened to me. I have no idea what I would do in that situation. For all I know, the rapist might become unnerved by me shouting the Gospel at him and abandon his victim.

I read about this via a different news site. Why is this so upsetting? Did you not know that every religion contains extremists? Christianity isn't excluded.

The slide show was also not produced by the Army. It was used without permission in a class

The problem isn't that someone who calls themselves Catholic can goe to extremes. It lists Catholicism as a UNIT, and Evangelical Christianity as a UNIT, not groups/individuals that would claim themselves as such. I don't have much of a favorable view of Roman Catholicism, but to compare Catholicism as a unit to the Taliban, Al Qaeda, or other similar groups is far more than a problem of apples and oranges, for apples and oranges are at least remotely the same shape.

So I guess Joshua and David are right out then right?

The Bible can be used to justify a lot of things. It can be (and has been) twisted to serve any agenda anyone has ever had. American Christianity has made Jesus into a carpenter who loves the smell of napalm in the morning.

I still odnt understand your reasoning... are you anti-war? anti-war isn't biblical...

You've wedded the Gospel with your military culture to send wave after wave of young men into the meat-grinder.

Blessed are the peace-makers.

so the roman centurions and soldiers that converted to christianity weren't doing it right?

you're obviously not going to reason with the guy, people want to believe the bible is nothing but a feel good set of books and everything is just peachy man, love peace and chicken grease man.

They might have been doing "it" right, for all I know. It was a little before my time when those guys were still around.

If the Bible were as you say, it would be universally acceptable. The world would not be threatened by it. popular. But the message Jesus came to bring was not an easy one. Redemption through the shed blood of Christ is a narrow path, a difficult one. We are asked to pick up and carry our own heavy cross as we follow Jesus. It's the best Good News a man will ever hear, but it's also going to seriously kill his buzz and harsh his mellow.
