yes because I don't want to read into the Bible.
I would say though, imo, it stretches from being hated, opposed until literally killed.
So something more drastic than simply being snickered at or socially lampooned.
Here in the US, persecution has been thrown around too often. If people smile sheepishly while someone prays in public, some consider it persecution. If people are told to put their Bible's away by a guest speaker at a school, they consider it persecution. If they see Richard Dawkins on TV, they consider that persecution.
I think both you and I agree in that persecution is more than this. It is something far more deliberate. It is quite often an organized obstruction of a Christian's otherwise peaceable existence with the object of seriously stifling their ministry. To the point of murder.
Many Christians have been blessed enough to exist without extensive persecution. The historical occasions have been rare indeed, but in times immediately preceding our own Christians of the West rarely if ever endured persecution because societies were founded and operated by those who were more Godly. To see that environment change so rapidly is alarming and evidence of decline.

i don't want to judge the salvations of Christians that you say are 'blessed' without persecution.
What i read in the bible is blessed are those who are persecuted in My name sake. lol
anyway, again I won't judge whether they were saved and justified by the Blood of Christ, but the bible assures, a true Christian who really wants to be like Christ and live a Godly life, would be persecuted by the world.
Culture is a funny thing.
A Christian is indeed at odds with the World and will, in that way, always find persecution.
May He come and liberate us soon.

Keeping your opinion to yourself is not the American way. America like other places in the world should be a marketplace of ideas and if the mark says we do not want your ideas, views, etc because they are... then there is something wrong with the market. The agoras and other places in the ancient world were places where things like this were discussed. Nowadays it is becoming don't say anything, keep it to your self, which is part of the secularization and privatization of America. It is becoming I can't say I am a Christian because if I say that, then right away I will be considered prejudiced, not of sound mind, etc. There is a double standard, I just wish people would see it and not be influenced by the world's views and becoming zombies that don't question, don't ask questions, or seek to attempt to understand other views. Now it is becoming this:

When it comes to this, this is the beginning of a form of persecution that I don't think the Founding Fathers would have ever envisioned happening in the U.S. but they did give warnings about something like it. This and other laws will lead to jailing of Christians, beatings, etc. Soon I will probably be in jail for following Christ and what he says in his Bible about these, which is clear. Religion was never meant to be private, that is why another meaning for religion, is a way of life. God bless.
We as Christians truly need to prepare ourselves for the inevitability that this type of persecution will ONLY get worse. I'm torn as to how far we should take our fight against this evil. On the one hand there were Christians who fought oppression to form this country including taking up arms against the oppressors. On the other, merely speaking out to the point of arrest (it's coming) then singing the Lord's praises in prison ala Paul & Silas might be the way to go, especially if this truly is the dawning of Jesus' return.
Whichever way, take note of people like the previous poster who has no problem trashing the 1st Amendment to further their sinful rebellious causes.

What would constitute a discriminatory opinion?
The definition for that can be warped many different ways to suit someone's fancy. Especially if they want to use the law as a means of punishing political identity.
I don't like the cultural precedence it sets because it doesn't serve anyone well and could severely limit discourse. Conservatives would be angered to the point that they pass similar laws in cities they control. Laws against preaching socialist values because they are antithetical to community standards and "discriminate" against certain individuals. Atheists could be silenced for "discrimination" against Christians.
We silence each other. Further polarize. Eventually we Balkanize.

By the time Obama is through we will not have to worry about expressing opinions...as there will be no amendment to guarantee it. Unless of course it is an authorized opinion as defined by his people.
This is ridiculous. As much as I strongly and passionately disagree with you all I would never deny you the right to voice an opinion.
Where do you draw the line with this? There's a little prejudice in us all. I don't care what anyone says. There's always at least one particular group of people we wont be able to rub along with. People all over the world will always have issues with religions, sexual orientations, races, gender, age, culture, weight, musical preference, image etc. That can't be avoided. But as long as those opinions are not acted upon violently or maliciously then theres nothing wrong with having any controversial or radical opinions.
Controversial opinion creates debate, opens eyes, opens doors, opens hearts and educates people. There will always be the minority of people who will go too far with their views.
I'll go on record and say out of all the religions, Christianty is certainly near the bottom of my list of religions I'd want rid of.
I don't see a Christian performing honour killings, stoning their wife, suicide bombing etc. Christians are pretty laid back and just tell the odd person like me they will go hell lol.
This is the start of something much worse.
