i'm sixteen and i've never had a real boyfriend. i'm trying to wait for God to send me the right guy. i don't have a problem with dating, but i don't want to date someone who isn't up to God's standards for my life. there is this guy who is interested in me, and he seems nice enough, but i asked him if he was a Christian and he said no. that is something that really bothers me. but my mom is pushing me to talk to him, because she knows his family. i don't want to be rude or anything, but i just don't think i want to get involved with him. what should i do?

Um -- don't listen to you mother. You can be cordial friends --but if he doesn't share the same beliefs as you -- it really isn't the best thing for you.

I agree with OreoSoleil. God even warns us several times about this issue. However, try to talk about it with your mum, so that she understands your opinion.

God bless you!

stick with the convictions of your heart, God knows what's best for you.. and a ungodly man is not it. trust me been there done that and seen it with others and it too have made be to belive it. so waiting is good for you... I love that your heart is right toward Gpd at a young age.. a great headstart in life.. wish I did it, but can't change the past.. but can help you stay on the road to an awesome future.. for you have made God the one to lead you into and through it. don't ever listen to anyone who will tell you anything different than what God has already put in your heart... I don't mean you any harm here; but the devil will try to us anyone to set you on a path to distructions ( even your mother) although she do not know it is the enemy that would put it in her mind to tell you something that is not from God, it is the enemy. though our intentions maybe good; if it is not a thought that God will give, it is 99.9% the enemy and 1% flesh.. no matter what it is not God..
God keep on blessing you is my prayer. in the name of Christ Jesus.

If you like the dude, pray that he gets saved. Until then though, stay strictly platonic friends. Do not think that you can be a better witness by being his girlfriend. I've seen many young Christians, mostly women for some reason, that will date a nonbeliever, get really close, and then make a condition that he must be saved in order for them to get married. The boyfriend will usually gets saved so that she will marry him, but the only reason that he did it is usually just so that she would marry him. The problem is that his only incentive for getting saved was so that he could be with the girl, so there is very rarely any spiritual growth. This causes the woman to be the spiritual leader in the relationship, and the dude is a baby in Christ, and never grows. This is the spiritual equivelant of a 40 year old marrying a 15 year old. This is still unequally yoked. I know it sounds sexist, but Corinthians makes it quite clear that the man should be the spiritual leader of a household, and while you're probably not thinking of marriage yet, it would prove wise if any potential husband was spiritually mature, and had the same understandings as you about things.
Now, if you have an interest in this dude, it's not impossible for him to get saved, and reach the same spiritual maturity as you. I've seen it happen to people very close to me, and now they're happily married. But I think you should wait until he's saved before you become more than just friends. If your church has a youth group, invite him. He would probably only go to hang out with you initially. Eventually though, he might hear the right message, and get saved.
