Unbelievers must either accept the Bible in its entirety (Ps. 119:160) or not at all. There are Bible answers as to why we suffer. So, if they argue that the Bible states God is good and love (Ps. 100:5; 1 Jn. 4:8), they must also consider the what the Bible says about suffering. If unbelievers acknowledge God’s goodness but ignore His explanation for suffering, they are being inconsistent. If someone refuses to accept what His word says about suffering, but instead attribute it to Him for some other reason, they are no longer talking about Him honestly.
To speak accurately about God, you have to speak according to what He has revealed about Himself. In their hatred, pride, and vitriol, they accuse Him of wrongdoing—yet in doing so, they aren’t arguing against the biblical God, but a straw-god of their own making. When one continues to be blatantly dishonest about Him and His word, they end up with a distorted view of God…
Their distorted view of the true God, who they think bears the true God’s name and attributes, does not reflect the God of the Bible.
When someone calls the true God’s actions evil, unjust, immoral, they’ve already stopped describing and talking about Him. Instead, they’re describing and talking about a god of their own making…a counterfeit built from their own pride and expectations.
The mistake many skeptics make is that they judge God’s character by a verse that they don’t fully understand, rather than judging that verse in light of God’s proven character.
Their accusations usually rest on misunderstandings, partial readings, or emotional reactions divorced from God’s full nature. His justice, mercy, holiness, and purpose. They’re attacking a caricature, not the true God who “is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).
Who says God is cruel? Who says God is not omnipotent? The unbeliever...or hate-filled bitter person. But who says that about God? Man does. But that’s just their opinion. By what moral standard beyond themselves do they say that? Any argument against God is an opinion.
Those who critique God due to pain and suffering have shown themselves to be weak minded. There are many biblical examples of people losing loved ones, suffering, going through tragedies. The problem of suffering isn’t the issue, the problem is the unbelievers flawed view of God
It’s easy to find loopholes and excuses to justify one’s cowardice rejection and unbelief in God. They are everywhere. Not having the courage to submit to their Creator, the unbeliever/hardened skeptic tries to convince themselves there’s not One.
Countless Christians have gone through the darkest tragedies and still believe. The difference isn’t in what they’ve seen, but in who they’ve chosen to seek.
The most powerful testimony of the gospel isn’t just in what we say — it’s in how we live. People can hear a thousand sermons or read endless verses, but what truly reaches them is when they see the character of Christ shining through someone’s life
Before a person ever opens a Bible or listens to a preacher, they might see the gospel first in the way a Christian treats and serves others with love, patience, forgiveness, humility, and truth in action, and endures hardship with faith.
Atheists ask questions like, if God is good, why does suffering exist? If he's all loving and all powerful, why does evil pain and suffering exist?
Those are biblical question asking about the biblical God. And so that demands and requires a biblical answer. They are asking a question about the biblical God. But they will not accept the biblical answer to their question about the God who they ask.
Their questions only makes sense if they accept that God exists and has those attributes His Word says, and it only makes sense if you accept what His Word says about the fault of man, about sin, about the creation, but they don't accept that. And so their question is starting off on the wrong foot because they are asking about God all while not believing His Word to be correct. So every biblical answer you give them about the true God that they ask about, they will just brush off, because the answer they want is an answer that is not biblical. It’s like asking a lawyer a legal question and then rejecting the law-based answer.
