Picture your life as a jumble of shoestrings all tied up in knots, each shoestring a different color. The different shoestrings represent the different elements of your life, such as your family, your job, etc. This jumble of knots could represent many of our lives—with everything all knotted up. Each knot represents a problem, and the process of untangling those knots and straightening out those problems is going to take a bit of time and effort. It took a long time to tie all those knots, and it will take some time to straighten them all out.

If it sometimes seems that you're not making any progress, it's because the Lord is untying your knots one at a time. It may be hard, and it may take time, but if you will commit yourself to the process of getting well, sooner or later you will see victory in your life and experience the freedom you have wanted for so long.

Maybe you're standing in the way of your own healing. Have you ever asked yourself, "Do I really want to get well?" Did you know there are people who really don't want to get well? It takes some people years to overcome their problems…and some never do. They don't really want to move past their problems. It seems they've become accustomed to having those problems around, and they're just content to live with them.

Sometimes people actually get addicted to having problems. It becomes their identity—their life. It defines everything they think, say and do. Their life seems to revolve around their problems. If you have a deep-seated and lingering disorder, you may be tempted to make that the focal point of your life. But I encourage you not to give in to that temptation. If you do, it will try to control your thinking and dominate every conversation you have. Don't let your life be taken over by your problems.
If you really want to get well, you'll have to stop using your problem as a means of getting attention, sympathy or pity.

Make a vow right now that from this moment on you are not going to waste any more of your valuable time feeling sorry for yourself and wallowing in self-pity over things you cannot change. Promise yourself that you'll stop using your problem as a crutch in your life. Instead, pledge that you will untangle the knots a little at a time, while living each day to the fullest, looking forward to what God has in store for you as you follow Him…one day at a time.

I think your right on with the shoe strings! I crochet and I refuse to throw out tangled yarn. Its a blessing in the end when Im done untangleing my yarn. I ll have more yarn to work with. Just like untangling your problems you will have more in life.

I Really like this. :)

I was watching the beginning of Braveheart this evening with my Roomies and I kept thinking to myself. Why isn't it like THAT anymore?

Guy sees a girl he likes, he pursues her and she adores him. They fall in love and get married. (the rest was the rest of the movie and I'm not getting into it)

There were no other women running around screwing things up for him. His woman didn't play hard to get or admire other men to try and make him jealous. She was not surrounded by a herd of Beta males who agreed with her every shirt and shoe purchase. He never talked about other women at all, past present or otherwise. There was no mind games or "will of God" cards. All these complications, all this madness, all of the spectators standing around with two cents driving in from all directions, pulling, tugging, tearing, All of it, needs to stop. Its a ridiculous HUGE KNOT.

I think I had all of it figured out when I was 18, find a girl and run away with her.

if you mean getting well. or waiting for God to heal us referring to addictions of the flesh such as immorality, excess drinking, fornication, lying, etc,,, see Galatians Ch 5 19-21, then God is waiting for you to repent and seek His mercy.

I don't think you mean this, yes we all have many faults, struggles, and imperfections in our personalities and make poor decisions at times, but no where in scripture does God say He will except us IN our sins and disobedience, which could be many addictions the church is dealing with, such as pornography, drunkenness, smoking, idolatry, and just plain worldliness, followed by a lukewarm existence, where repentance and faith is long forgotten, and those in any form of bondage or addiction, are told its ok, try to do better, just believe and trust God will do His part and clean you up.

This is the great lie, God is waiting for you to forsake your evil ways, all addictions of the flesh as mentioned above are choices made from long practiced habits, but not inbred into us as birth, that some churches will tell you,

Sin is a high crime against God, not a calamity, and must be dealt with in repentance, see Acts 3-19, God doesnt feel sorry for you because He has given you a way out through repentance and faith all proven by deeds, we have a choice, and yes God will help us untangle many messes in our life, BUT we have our part as co workers with Him,

2Co 6:1 But working together,(with God) we also call on you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

But those messes do not include willful, presumptuous, rebellious sin against Him, that most in the church take for granted.

Biblical repentance

2 Corinthians 7:10-11

10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
The way to the cross, is godly sorrow, not the sorrow of the world. Godly sorrow produces repentance (stopping the sin) leading to what? Salvation! Never going back to the sins of death, 1 Corinthians 6-9-11.
The sorrow of the world, leads to death, since the sin never stops, so then godly sorrow will produce: diligence in you,(the virtue of hard work rather than the sin of careless,) clearing of all wrong doing, what indignation(strong displeasure at something considered unjust, offensive, insulting,or base; righteous anger.)Followed by fear of God and His wrath, a vehement desire(Characterized by forcefulness of expression or intensity of emotion or conviction; fervid) a zeal and passion to do right and make amends if possible, what vindication(a means of exoneration from an accusation) you proved yourself to be clear(pure)of all known sin and disobedience before God.
This happens before forgiveness will be granted, because we have free will and ability, to repent, stop the sin, and obey God from a pure and undefiled heart, thus becoming savable, and broken, ready to receive the implanted word with a clean conscience, purified through repentance and faith proven by deeds!
