actually our law is based on english common law, so it came from the UK.....Our law system is highly based off off English law....so before you try to separate the UK and US on matters of law, remember we got ours from you.

These all may be true, but you can't just look at some statistics and come up with a view, you have to look at all statistics. Do you know how many crimes are actually solved and get through the criminal justice system? Much lower than the number of crimes actually committed. The police are trained on how to use firearms and most follow their training.

the report had them stats, please get you facts correct. and i repeat i have nothing to do with the stats, if you read the other posts you would have seen this.

I have read the report, multiple times and have yet to see what I was talking about. I was saying the report missed some crucial facts. I wasn't saying you had anything to do with facts, just all the facts need to be viewed....

In January, 95 shootings of suspects by police. All 95 were incidents in which the officer or his partner/fellow officer(s) were in direct and grave danger. January 2015

In February, 38 such incidents. Same thing, though there is one wrongful death suit filed by a family in San Francisco. February 2015

March, 41, not all are unquestioned incidents, but only one may have involved an unarmed suspect -- that being in Springfield, Missouri, where the case is still under review and independent investigation. March 2015

April, 46, including the reserve Tulsa officer who mistook his service weapon for his Taser, which is inexcusable. The rest are all justified incidents. April 2015

May, 42, one questionable. May 2015

Yesterday, June 1, a New York officer attempting to detain a mentally ill and violent man, used deadly force when the man attacked him. June 2015

In all, 263 incidents, only four continuing under investigation or resulting in wrongful death lawsuits. Seems to me that only .015% of shootings being of questionable nature is a great record, much greater than the public manages in dealing with police officers, and one another.

Still, that number of 263 incidents is on a pace for 631 such officer involved shootings of suspects this year, the most in over 20 years. With the exception of the 602 police officer shootings in 2013, last year was the first the total ever went over 400. In fact, in 2009, there were only 65 such incidents nationwide.

Are police getting more aggressive and out of control? That thought is ludicrous. The fact is, the anarchist crowd going around touting the false narrative "hands up, don't shoot" is causing suspects to be more aggressive and more likely to attempt to harm or kill police officers. Thus far this year, 22 law enforcement personnel have been killed as a result of suspect violence, most by gunfire, but three by physical assault and two others by vehicular assault.

The reason more people are dying as a result of police contact is because those people are being more violent, disrespecting police, and having no qualms about being aggressive toward them.

If one ever wants to start an active thread, just mention gun-deaths or gun-control if there are Yanks around.
They'll come out of the woodwork to defend the indefensible because it is a sick, gun-crazy society for whom violence is endemic.

Sure, there are millions of 'gunless', peace-loving Americans.
But somehow they do not seem to prevail.

The National Rifle Association has enormous political clout and gun-lovers are passionate about their 'right to bear arms'.

U.S. gun deaths - particularly amongst young people - per 100,000 population - are many, many times that of any civilized country.

Nice hyperbole.

The fact is, young people in the U.S., mostly black young people, are responsible for 84% of those deaths, and who do they kill? Other black young people. And the two groups together represent less than three percent of the U.S. population.

Got anything to say about those facts, or perhaps about the number of police officers forced to defend themselves from a thug mentality that is dominating the lower class and lower-middle class youth today? If you don't, you're ...

15 years online and I don't think I've ever encountered anyone so obsessed with "off topic" which, in this instance, I don't believe I am.

Could be wrong, but I also sense a bit of condescension and perhaps even racism in your last offering.

Whoever is killing whom, I reckon that if there were fewer guns there would be fewer deaths and woundings.
And I've heard all the arguments against that.
But it works here and just about everywhere else (I believe Canada and Switzerland have high gun-ownership rates but very low gun-related crime).
If the latter is true, all the more reason for Yanks to have a really good look at why they have such a violent society.

History has much to do with it, I suggest.
Bathed in blood. Revolutionary war, Civil war, Spanish war, Indian wars, Mexican wars - on and on it goes.

Name one single day in the last half century when the U.S. has not had troops off killing people somewhere on this planet or were not propping up some Diem or Pinochet or Shah or Saddam etc etc etc to do it for them.

It is after 4am (Wed) here and I have not yet been to bed so, if it is your whim, I shall drag out stats and sources and links TOMORROW.

Canada does not have black ghettoes for one reason

For another, we are just too busy keeping warm to heat things up to the point we have racial wars and certain groups killing each other off and then blaming the white folks

Name one single day in the last half century when the U.S. has not had troops off killing peoplesomewhere on this planet or were not propping up some Diem or Pinochet or Shah or Saddam etc etc etc to do it for them.

and this coming from a subject of the country of 'the sun never sets on the British Empire'

how do you suppose your countrymen achieved any truth to that expression?

Did all the countries invaded and dominated by Britian loose at a card game?

History has much to do with it, I suggest. Bathed in blood

There aren't enough black people centralized in Canada in order to form black ghettoes. In the 2006 census, black only numbered 783,795 in the entire country (see: Visible minority population, by province and territory (2006 Census) (Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick)). That's only 0.025 of the Canadian population.

Given that Canadian police agencies “actively suppress” racial data when delivering their annual crime reports to Ottawa (see here), it's amazing how high the reported per capita rate of criminal activity is for fatherless black males in Canada (despite their very low percentage of the general population). They have been rapidly increasing Canada's prison population.

Well, that's one of you.

Ah, there it is. The "race card." Good non-resident pseudo-U.S. Democrat that you are, that's the obvious response to discomforting facts.

Whoever is killing whom, I reckon that if there were fewer guns there would be fewer deaths and woundings.
No, because then only the thugs and the police would have guns. But as you say ...

[ . . . ] And I've heard all the arguments against that [ . . . ]
... so further discussion along those lines would be fruitless.

But it works here and just about everywhere else (I believe Canada and Switzerland have high gun-ownership rates but very low gun-related crime).
On the contrary, the restrictions on gun ownership in just about any European country make it nearly impossible to own a gun. But again, the issue is as much, if not more, about culture and mindset among the thugs than it is about gun ownership. There were no guns used in the Washington, D.C. contractor's family murders, but that didn't stop a thug from mercilessly killing four people in cold blood.

If the latter is true, all the more reason for Yanks to have a really good look at why they have such a violent society.
You and other anti-gun types utterly fail to grasp that the Second Amendment is not about self-protection from crime. It is about standing against a corrupt and democracy-opposing government -- kinda like the one we're developing now.

History has much to do with it, I suggest.

Oh, yeah, sure we all know what a long and brilliant history of peace and rationality Europe has.

[/sarcasm]

And can you reasonably and logically project the outcome had the U.S. -- as well as it's allies, because we rarely go into such an action without international support -- declined to respond to trouble spots throughout the world? Or are you too myopically liberal to understand the ramifications of not practicing peace through strength, a doctrine that demands response to irresponsible and dictatorial despots?

Only if you want to have a blizzard of statistics and links in response which will utterly disprove whatever nonsense you manage to locate on leftist websites who would rather fabricate and lie than actually tell you the truth.

Perhaps a good dose of Tide and a spin-wash would clear your head?

regardless of full facts the report spells out big problems,
the facts are simple, stop shooting each other. but alas who am i, to even attempt to convey a simple message, with out being seen as anti usa. again no meantion of talk, on how, we could help this matter to find some peaceful ground or is all hope lost.
but even being seen as an outsider to the usa, we in the uk do thing much different , yet it strange that even on a christian web site, some stand in, shoot and kill, as being some form of justice. if this is gods problem, why is prayer not working, ie for example, what do i pray for, the police to shoot the bad guy or the bad guy to shoot the police man. i hope you see what i am trying to saying here. what is the point of prayer if both dont put down the guns. some may say i am being naive, yet the sorry point is god is not naive, has anyone got a clue on how or what we should pray in this case.
again i am not interested in race or bigotry, yet if we cant get christians to stand together, no matter what colour we are, only shows , divided we can never stand together. (food for thought)

No, the reason is because we see ignoramuses (such as yourself) that have absolutely no idea what they're talking about and want to help them mitigate the nonsense in their own brains with the correct information.

But then really you're not driven by empirical data and observable reality. Emotional left-wing ideologies are what move you. That's what it's really all about. The sort of ideologies that render entire societies defenseless against sick, gun-crazed organized criminals whom love strict gun-control as it removes the primary impediment to their operations which, of course, is a well armed law abiding populace.

Your myopic left-wing "island" politics are completely undesirable to large population societies on large land masses. Mexico tried disarming everyone only to discover that the only ones left standing were well-armed highly mobile criminal organizations, both large and small, that have run over and victimized the population destroying much of the societal integrity (not to mention entire economic sectors such as the tourist industry and related dependent industries) of Mexico.

It got so bad that cartels were going into towns and kidnapping innocent children, harvesting their organs, and selling them on the black market for another income stream. One large cartel even got to the point they were eating the organs in a bizarre occult ritual. The parents could only look on helplessly. They had, of course, been completely disarmed.

Fortunately, the government has finally come to its senses and been reversing the strict gun control mistake they made and now the citizens are on the offensive. They've captured several high level cartel leaders and driven criminal organizations out of their communities. They've brought the wanton homicide that was occurring as illegally armed criminal organizations (who even had set up illegal clandestine factories to make firearms [a very easy thing to do which is another fact that you people never seem to grasp]) simply murdered at will have found they can no longer do that in many areas of Mexico now due to the legal selective rearming of the population.

Your ignorance and false assertions do not equate to reality.

In fact, Mexico recently dropped off the top ten list for fire-arm related homicides (joining the U.S. which was NEVER ON IT) BY rearming law abiding citizens in their country.

because it is a sick, gun-crazy society for whom violence is endemic.

You want to reduce criminality and homicide?

1. First and foremost: realize a society that forms moral nuclear families and raises moral children. This requirement must be a core value for any society to realize long-term success.
2. Secondly: realize a socio-economic reality that ensure the populace can earn income legitimately. This requirement should be amongst any nation's highest priorities.
3. Thirdly: ensure the law-abiding citizenry are able to defend themselves against armed criminals and work hard to support the law abiding citizenry with a healthy judicial system that doesn't become a burden to them via over criminalization but effectively deals with real crime.
4. Fourthly: education, education, education... but not the immoral leftist public indoctrination system that masquerades itself as "education" which we have today that is in such a rapid state decline and deterioration despite government spending on it actually doubling in real dollars from when it was first in the world.
5. Ancillaries.

duh ... I live here...I know that which is why I wrote that

you know, its so easy to post statistics...that can be slanted any ole which way

sorry, we don't have the problem you all have...slaves were hidden and transported to Canada to freedom

Scholarly statistics are accurately produced according to ethical guidelines by industry standard bodies (such as the ASA) and peer-reviewed. They're the only ones I use. If you find yourself rejecting such statistics because of your own personal bias against what they reveal, then we've found the real problem: you.

Furthermore, if you're making assertions of fact on issues you don't really understand with respect to problems you acknowledge you don't really have then all you're revealing is that you're ignorantly talking about something you can't discuss competently despite the display of emotional bias.

US police kill more than two people a day, report suggests - BBC News

Data collected by the Washington Post newspaper suggests that the number of people shot by US police is twice as high as official figures claim

Among the report's other findings:

  • Black people were killed at three times the rate of whites or other minorities when adjusted for local population
  • Most were armed, but one in six was unarmed or carried a toy weapon
  • 365 men and 20 women were killed
  • Most (118) were aged 25-34, while 94 were 35-44. Eight were children younger than 18
  • In all three 2015 cases in which charges were subsequently filed against police officers, videos had emerged showing officers shooting a suspect during or after a chase on foot.

regardless of full facts the report spells out big problems,

I think I see what you are saying. We as Christians should be trying to do as Jesus would have us do, and try to impact the world, to help reduce shootings and crimes that require police to shoot? Well I would say praying is only part of the solution. I think we as Christians need to step up and make a difference in our communities. The onset of crime actually starts at a young age. After school programs where children can feel like they belong can actually help. I would say if anyone feels compelled, they should get a group together, possibly a group from church to start an after school program for juveniles. The result may not be immediate, but it could help in the long run according to statistics. I have actually considered doing this myself when I get better and can do something like that.

oh yeah right...you are the statistics guy from that other thread who thinks all women are out to get you

stuffy! good on you...statistics can't talk back so you get the last word

waste of time

we don't deal with what all the US deals with...hint....

but never mind....
We don't deal with it either. I didn't own slaves. My dad didn't own slaves. None of my grandparents owned slaves. We were all born long after the emancipation.

Which brings up the question, what does a 20s-something black activist take offense at something he/she didn't experience, nor did anyone even in the last four or five generations of his/her family? What the hell has slavery got to do with today?

I know they want to make a connection, and it is a dark moment in the world's history -- "world" because the U.S. wasn't the only slave-holding country -- but no one today has any lasting effects of it.

So-called "racism" -- better described as "ethnism" because there is only one race -- is a direct result of Darwinism, not slave ownership.

i understnd what you said, i am trying to point at online awareness and attutudes, when quoting the bible, we talk to all men, not just them that agree with each other. etc
awaerness and attutudes on line, need to ask each other or self. in romans 5, all men, implys every human on the planet. so why are we divided , is yesterdays history not been forgotten, or is the normal way of life , just to be excepted.
i am not looking at class or colour, religion , taboos or dogmas here. but at our attutudes to each other, if we cant understand that all men, that cliam to be saved by god, through jesus christ, would mean different colour, countrys, and different speeking people, etc these states are facts that god loved the whole world. the question would be why stand apart
, would that to cause divition on line. the point when i quote the bible , i am talking to all men. i hope we all learn this simple lesson in the hope that others will know that god loves all men.

and the reporter of this topic will be glad i brought this point up. lol
