Aye, I preferred Mint over Ubuntu as well, though I had some stability issues with both; invariably ended up with Windows again. Even with WINE, it just wasn't going to accommodate me in full, though I find it to be a more "efficient" OS than Windows. ;)

For a newb, which is best? My potential future occupation is High School education. Keep that in mind. :) I need to be able to use microsoft office, use PDFs, etc etc. Is it possible to buy a laptop with Linux pre-installed?

Not from any of the major OEMs, like Dell, HP, Acer, etc. Very few computer resellers will load Linux as the default OS as well, but I believe Mythlogic offers Ubuntu (one of the most popular Linux distributions). They're prices are slightly steeper compared to some of the other resellers, but having Ubuntu loaded cuts the cost down quite a bit from having Windows installed instead.

I started off using SuSE linux in 1998, since then I have used Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Red Hat, and even FreeBSD (Not Linux).

Overall I prefer the feel of Ubuntu and find it to be the most servicable, however I have always found Slackware to be the most custimizable. At the end of the day, I've never been able to be as productive under linux as I have under windows. But I use Linux for file storage and service. I also use it for our whole home router.

My dream is a MAC lol
