Polio is kept in a lab. Correct. And interestingly its not to make vaccines.

Polio was devastating, we can all agree on that. It was devastating because it was highly and specifically evolved to avoid the human immune system. We have and continue to make many important immunological discoveries from its behaviour in cell culture.

Nonetheless, I don't feel as a scientist it is up to me to decide whether we keep or remove polio forever. (It hasn't been eradicated, several developing countries still have it) but I believe keeping or removing polio from the labs should be a community based political decision. But I am not the one keeping polio I can promise you, so I have no say.

It is a common popular belief in Central Asia that immunizations cause sterility. The belief is that immunizations are part of a world-wide conspiracy to limit world population.

This is true. It really doesn't help millions suffering from preventable disease.
In some places witch doctors instruct HIV infected males to have sex with an infant to cure their affliction. Just because someone says something doesn't make it true. No one is forcing vaccines on you. You do actually have a choice. Some people don't, and I fight for that choice.

Inflammation is extremely important in immunity. It is the hallmark of an immune response. When tissue is inflamed your body knows something is wrong and sends in an armada of immune cells, basophils eosinophils, macrophages T-cells, B-cells etc. The inflammation is important.

Many vaccines including influenza are generated in eggs as we are currently unable to do mass produce in tissue culture. Work on improving this as I mentioned earlier is underway. Nonetheless, sterile eggs are used (expensive infected lab eggs that technically can't be infected with anything) and expensive tests and filtration methods are applied to the virus prior to making a vaccine formulation. There is no risk of spraying an again encephalopathy up your nose. I have not head of a single case of this ever happening. Not sure where you are getting your data.

Of course all vaccines have possible side effects. It is absolutely all about risk analysis. If a scientist or clinician gave you a vaccine and told you that there were absolutely no risks, I believe he or she would be criminally negligent. Or just plain stupid. However you take risks every day, and you weigh up if it is a risk worth taking. Look at pertussis, tetanus and diphtheria. It is up to you whether you choose to vaccinate your child against them of course, but I would recommend looking into the diseases themselves.

According to Diane Harper, an international expert in HPV science, its vaccines, its clinical disease and treatment and the leading professional involved in the clinical trials of the HPV vaccinations, the duration for the effectiveness of the HPV vaccination Gardasil is just five years. In an interview with Marcia G. Yerman she states:

“If the vaccinated person is not sexually active during the five years of its efficacy, then the vaccine has not protected her from disease (as we do not have evidence that Gardasil offers efficacy any longer than five years). Its faults include tiny antibody titers for all HPV types other than HPV 16; limited protection; limited duration of efficacy; and safety concerns (as outlined in my opening statement).”

If this is correct, a child vaccinated at age eleven will not be protected on any level unless she becomes sexually active before the age of sixteen. Quite shocking, isn’t it?

One of the most damning facts that Ms. Harper revealed in her interview was when Ms. Yerman asked her this question:

“Do you believe that the Gardasil vaccine, as it currently stands, could present more risks to a young girl or woman than the possibility of cervical cancer?”

Ms. Harper answered:

“Pap smears have never killed anyone. Pap smears are an effective screening tool to prevent cervical cancer. Pap smears alone prevent more cervical cancers than can the vaccines alone.

Gardasil is associated with serious adverse events, including death. If Gardasil is given to 11 year olds, and the vaccine does not last at least fifteen years, then there is no benefit – and only risk – for the young girl. Vaccinating will not reduce the population incidence of cervical cancer if the woman continues to get Pap screening throughout her life.

If a woman is never going to get Pap screening, then a HPV vaccine could offer her a better chance of not developing cervical cancer, and this protection may be valued by the woman as worth the small but real risks of serious adverse events.

On the other hand, the woman may not value the protection from Gardasil as being worth the risk knowing that 1) she is at low risk for a persistent HPV infection and 2) most precancers can be detected and treated successfully. It is entirely a personal value judgment.” [5]

Gardasil’s manufacturer, Merck, states on their website that Gardasil does more than help prevent cervical cancer, it protects against other HPV diseases, too. Merck further claims that Gardasil does not prevent all types of cervical cancer. Similarly, the CDC and the FDA claim that the Gardasil vaccine is an important cervical cancer prevention tool that will potentially benefit the health of millions of women and based on all of the information we have today, CDC recommends HPV vaccination for the prevention of most types of cervical cancer. All four of these statements are false and at significant variance with the available evidence as they imply that Gardasil can indeed protect against some types of cervical cancer which has never been proven.

At present there are no significant data showing that either Gardasil or Cervarix (GlaxoSmithKline) can prevent any type of cervical cancer since the testing period employed was too short to evaluate long-term benefits of HPV vaccination. The longest follow-up data from phase II trials for Gardasil and Cervarix are 5 and 8.4 years, respectively, while invasive cervical cancer takes up to 20 -40 years to develop from the time of acquisition of HPV infection.

As adverse side effects from the new vaccine continue to mount, the opposition to the vaccine has grown. A lead researcher, Diane Harper, a scientist and physician who has spent 20 years developing the vaccine for human papillomavirus, says the HPV vaccine is not for younger girls, and that it is “silly” for states to be mandating them. Human Cell Strains in Vaccine Development

Note: The terms “cell strain” and “cell line” are sometimes used interchangeably. In this article, “cell strain” is used to describe a culture of a single type of cell; “cell line” is used to describe an immortalized culture of a single type of cell – that is, one that replicates infinitely, like the well-known HeLa cell line that was started with cancer cells taken from Henrietta Lacks.

Cell lines may be subject to the Hayflick Limit, a rule named for researcher Leonard Hayflick. Hayflick determined that a population of normal cells will reproduce only a finite number of times before they cease to reproduce. However, in contrast to those subject to Hayflick’s discovery, some cell lines can be immortalized: that is, the cells have undergone some mutation that allows them to reproduce indefinitely. One example is the so-called HeLa cell line, started from cervical cancer cells taken in the 1950s from a woman named Henrietta Lacks.

Using cell strains and cell lines, researchers can grow human pathogens like viruses in a particular type of cell to attenuate them – that is, to weaken them. One way viruses are adapted for use in vaccines is to alter them so that they are no longer able to grow well in the human body. This may be done, for example, by repeatedly growing the virus in human cells kept in culture at a much lower temperature than normal body temperature. In order to keep replicating, the virus adapts to become better at growing at the lower temperature, thus losing its original ability to grow well at normal body temperatures. Later, when it’s used in a vaccine and injected into a living human body at normal temperature, it still provokes an immune response but can’t replicate enough to cause illness....

...Following one such abortion, the fetus was sent to Plotkin at the laboratory he had devoted to rubella research. Testing the kidney of the fetus, Plotkin found and isolated the rubella virus. Separately, Leonard Hayflick (also working at the Wistar Institute at that time) developed a cell strain using lung cells from an aborted fetus. Many viruses, including rubella, grew well in the resulting cell strain, and it proved to be free of contaminants. The strain was eventually called WI-38.

Plotkin grew the rubella virus he had isolated in WI-38 cells kept at 86°F (30°C), so that it eventually grew very poorly at normal body temperature. (He chose the low temperature approach following previous experiences with attenuating poliovirus.) After the virus had been grown through the cells 25 times at the lower temperature, it was no longer able to replicate enough to cause illness in a living person, but was still able to provoke a protective immune response. This rubella vaccine is still used in the United States today as part of the combined MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine....

Ethical Issues with Human Cell Cultures

Although it has now been used in the United States for more than 30 years, Plotkin’s rubella vaccine was initially ignored in the U.S. in favor of vaccines developed using duck embryo cells and dog kidney cells. In the late 1960s, there was concern in the country that a vaccine developed using a human cell line could be contaminated with other pathogens, though this concern did not seem to have any documented evidence behind it.


This is somewhat interesting in light of the discovery earlier in the decade that polio vaccines developed using animal cells were contaminated with a simian virus, which was one of the reasons researchers began using human cell lines in the first place.

Side effects and ineffectiveness of smallpox vaccination have been the main smallpox issue discussed in medical papers for a long time. Your quoting a study from 1929. Vaccines are like computers. There are a new technology and progressing rapidly. You are comparing apples and oranges. Have a look at surgical practices from the 1920s and you will see just how different the times were.

Perhaps you could review the concepts of: Etiology, Epidemiology and Pathology for us as a simple edification for all. I am interested in your concept of "preventable disease" it sounds like you might be ready for a break through discovery.

My uncle had a flu shot about 10 years ago and got Guillain Barre syndrome from it. He was unable to walk for years, and still is very crippled.

My daughter did NOT have the Gardasil vaccine, even though the school health nurse and the district health nurses phoned me over and over and demanded I give my permission for my 11 year old daughter to have this. As a family, we discussed the health risks of yet another vaccine. My daughter and I also talked frankly about sex before marriage, and that the best prevention for this was marrying as a virgin, to another virgin. She did just that! Now finding out it would have only lasted her till age 16, I am glad I was strong enough to resist the pressure of another unnecessary vaccine.

I also would not let her get the Hep B vaccine, which she certainly did not need in grade 9. However, in 2nd year University she got a job working in a hospital and opted to get it. I also volunteer in health care, and will not get the Hep B or flu vaccines. I have a compromised immune system, from the RA drugs I take. The docs tell me I need vaccines even more. However, the last year I had a flu vaccine was 1985. I had the flu 7 times that year and the last time I had to be hospitalized. The doctor told me I should have had the vaccine. I told him I did, and then he told me I should never have it again. I never have, and I have not had the flu again, despite various parts of my immune system being suppressed, such as Interleukin 1, Interleukin 6, and B cells for years at a time.

Spanish Influenza was a terrible disease. My grandfather got it in his early 20's and went bald. Most of his friends died of it. My understanding is that half the world contracted the disease and the death rate was high. However, the flus we have today do not compare to the Spanish Influenza, plus we have better medical care in the western world. Spanish flu is always used as the reason to take flu shots. Only this flu has never come back and they obviously have a clue which flu strains are coming back, or because that is the basis of the flu shots. I think almost a 100 years passing and no more Spanish flu, means this should not be used as a scare tactic to influence people to get these yearly flu shots. Two years ago my daughter had the flu shot, and had to be hospitalized for a flu she got. I guess they guessed wrong on those strains.

I would never give my children vaccines if I had it to do over. Whether they cause autism, or just other problems or nothing wrong at all (my kids), I think it is too high a risk to take. And yes, I have had Red Measles, and Rubella as a child before these vaccines were available and had no long lasting effects. (I seemed to be immune to Mumps, never got it!)

I never have, and I have not had the flu again, despite various parts of my immune system being suppressed, such as Interleukin 1, Interleukin 6, and B cells for years at a time.

Spanish Influenza was a terrible disease. My grandfather got it in his early 20's and went bald. Most of his friends died of it. My understanding is that half the world contracted the disease and the death rate was high. However, the flus we have today do not compare to the Spanish Influenza, plus we have better medical care in the western world. Spanish flu is always used as the reason to take flu shots. Only this flu has never come back and they obviously have a clue which flu strains are coming back, or because that is the basis of the flu shots. I think almost a 100 years passing and no more Spanish flu, means this should not be used as a scare tactic to influence people to get these yearly flu shots. Two years ago my daughter had the flu shot, and had to be hospitalized for a flu she got. I guess they guessed wrong on those strains.

I would never give my children vaccines if I had it to do over. Whether they cause autism, or just other problems or nothing wrong at all (my kids), I think it is too high a risk to take. And yes, I have had Red Measles, and Rubella as a child before these vaccines were available and had no long lasting effects. (I seemed to be immune to Mumps, never got it!)

If you are immunocompromised this is a contraindication to receiving any form of live attenuated vaccine. That is a vaccine that contains a live virus should never be administered to you as you will become seriously ill. In the case of flu vaccines that are viral proteins they are perfectly safe.
Unfortunately there will be repeats of serious flus like the Spanish Influenza, the 2009 outbreak was expected to compare, however it did not. Interestingly Spanish flu survivors demonstrated immunity to this strain of the flu, while others didn't. Had your daughter decided to become sexually active prior to marrying her husband she would have been at risk of contracting, and spreading Human Papillomavirus and at an increased risk of cervical cancer. Nonetheless that was a choice for you to make.

In terms of you choosing not to vaccinate your family. Fine. That is your choice. Spanish flu will not come back, but another strain almost definitely will. As for working is a hospital I am unsure that she would have opted to get it, she has a duty of care to patients and the hospital has a duty of care to her. For both reasons she would have been required to get it.

Never have gotten the flu vaccine. Never have. Never will. I've never had the flu. People who I know get the flu vaccine are always the ones to be the sickest.

This is common for people to say this. But it is anecdotal evidence and doesn't constitute science or scientific evidence. Some people do not get the flu. I have never had a flu vaccine either. If you were 60 I might recommend it as your immune system weakens.

But you almost certainly have had the flu however, your immune system is likely very good at recognising and responding to influenza pathogens and eliminates it before you show symptoms. It is good, but doesn't mean vaccines are ineffective. Equally some people get the flu every year, and therefore should consider the flu vaccine as a preventative measure. Nonetheless

there is no evidence to suggest that vaccinated individuals are worse off than unvaccinated individuals.

They are all in vaccines, yet I am not seeing a nation of autistic, cancer bearing half poisoned people? It doesn't add up.

Every single compound on this planet is toxic at a high enough concentration. That includes water, sugar (I know australians and americans both overdose on that but that isn't the topic), etc.
The point is these compounds are extensively tested and safe at the concentrations used. Everyone gets up in arms about the government, CDC, FDA etc pushing these vaccines. Yet almost all of these individuals will have had the vaccinations themselves... come on guys, if they were trying to poison you they wouldn't start with themselves.
