This is a devotional I wrote on April 1, 2004.
AN ENCOURAGING WORD
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
I am a bit impatient. Okay, I am a lot impatient. I haven't seen any leaves appear on the maple tree in my front yard. And it's supposed to be Spring! At least, I thought it was Spring. A recent cold snap has made me wonder if we're actually going back into the Ice Age.
And so I wait. I wait for the tree to start budding leaves. I wait for the tree to be completely covered with leaves. I wait for the next warm spell so I can start walking around town again for my exercise. It seems that all I ever do is wait. But, I don't want to wait. I want leaves on the trees now!
Yet, as Christians, we are to wait upon the Lord. This is not the easiest task to accomplish. We often think that the Lord is too slow in fulfilling His promises in our lives. Actually, I believe that we are too fast. We want the Lord to answer our prayers in our lives immediately after we pray for them. The Lord does answer prayers, but in His time, not ours. Let us make an effort to "wait upon the Lord." When we do, we shall be blessed for our patience.

So true!!! I was reminded of this just today, as I saw the effects of praying first, before acting. I almost messed it up, but God worked it out for the good of all. Not much thanks to me, I am afraid. Will I ever learn to pray first and then WAIT UPON THE LORD?
