Well, you will have to tell this to the Apostle John who PERSONALLY taught Ignatius FACE TO FACE. If at some point the doctrine was pulled out of a clerical hat, why does ecclesiastical history record no protest against it?

A study of the history of doctrines indicates that Christians in the first centuries were up in arms if anyone suggested the least change in beliefs.

Surely belief in the Eucharist would be considered a great change, if it had not been believed from the first, so where are the records of protests? They don’t exist.

They must have understood that the oral teaching of the apostles, what Catholics call tradition, and the Bible not only failed to contradict the doctrine, but, in fact, confirmed it.
 
Saint Ignatius of Antioch (born around AD 35 and martyred in AD 107) was the third Bishop or Patriarch of Antioch, after Saint Peter and Evodius, who died around AD 68.

Eusebius, (Historia Ecclesiastica) records that Ignatius succeeded Evodius. Making his apostolic succession even more immediate, Theodoret reported that Peter himself appointed Ignatius to the see of Antioch.

Ignatius, who also called himself Theophorus ("bearer of God"), was a disciple of the Apostle John.

Ignatius was canonized a saint by the Roman Catholics, Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches.
 
Well it's just I don't see every catholic on the street feeding the hungry. It's normally the salvation army and other charities. You said we have to feed the hungry and clothe the naked too. I take it you mean there are different ways to do that?

The obvious interpretation of this passage is that Jesus will gather everyone who has ever lived and judge each person individually on the basis of their good works while they were on earth.

Did you know the Catholic Church educates 2.6 million students everyday at the cost to your Church of 10 billion dollars, and a savings on the other hand to the American taxpayer of 18 billion dollars.

Your graduates go on to graduate studies at the rate of 92%, all at a cost to you. To the rest of the Americans it's free. The Church has 230 colleges and universities in the U.S. with an enrollment of 700,000 students.

The Catholic Church has a non-profit hospital system of 637 hospitals, which account for hospital treatment of 1 out of every 5 people, not just Catholics in the United States today.

Not to mention the missions in Africa ministering to those in need. I contribute seven days a week.

Where in scriptures did Christ say to build universities and hospitals?

Or is this another case of "do as I say, not as I do".

"taught"... for how long? When? Did they die together? John was left at that island.

In schools everywhere today, kids are taught by teachers... and they STILL get things wrong. No references to ANY Jewish feasts or traditions. Instead, the catholic denomination hijacks those teachings and traditions and goes their own different directions.
 
STDOMINIC if you are so smart matey you wouldn't be a catholic and you wouldn't need the Pope to tell you what to believe you'd be able to figure it out for yourself.

Why are you all still arguing with this guy???? Don't you realise you're doing exactly what he wants??? Pssht move on and avoid fruitless arguing like the bible says to do...guaranteed it will drive him crazier than any rational argument you can present!!!

Catholics use medals and statues, but not as objects of worship in violation of the First Commandment.

They are intended to be reminders or aids to devotion which focus one's attention on prayer and the practice of virtue.

Do you carry a picture of a loved one in your wallet or in person, and if so, do you worship it? Of course not! You carry it because you love your family and wish to have a visual representation of them.

Do you take offense at the presence of statues of our country's heroes at national monuments? If the heroes of the nation can be so honored, why not the heroes of the Church?

Worshipping an invisible alien (strange) god, adoration given a graven image as a visible alien god or making any signs of adoration is exactly the essence of idolatry.

Did God break HIS OWN prohibition against images in Exo 25 when he COMMANDED Moses make the images of two cherubim for His Ark?

Statues and paintings focus attention on God. Statues are good only so long as it is understood that it is God who is adored, not an image.

As for bowing down in front of statues, you might want to see (Joshua 7:6-8) in which Joshua and all the elders of Israel bow to the ark with its statues.

Statues, paintings, stained glass windows and other art in Catholics churches serve to educate the members of our assembly in the Bible and in the Faith.

In the Middle Ages when so few could read, art was the way in which Christians learned the Holy Scripture.

The art on the walls of churches was called 'the Bible of the poor" since books were rare, took years to copy by hand, and were very expensive to purchase.

STDominic......Befor you take off can I ask you a question Ive always wanted to ask about the artwork in the catholic churches ,especially the renosunce erra of Michael angelo and Devenci....Im an amiture freelance artist and Like esecially that era of artwork,But Ive always wondered about the hands n the artwork on te walls and windows,Ive noticed that in most of them 2 or 3 fingers are mostly raised or pointing from the right hand.What does) this represent?like for instance in the painting on the sistine(spelling?)God and Adam.,Gods right hand His fingers are forming a sort of V and Adam is reaching up with 3 fingers.Do these hand jestures represent anythig or is it just artistic liscense?

Agree, we are so busy pointing out the pimples on someone’s face,
we sort of kinda forgot the red-enormous-smelly-full of maggots-ulcer on our back,
unless this is exactly who we are.

Keep this in mind my beloved “I’m the right one” Christians,
If Catholic is a "false religion," as you strongly, stubbornly, arrogantly believe,
then let’s hope that there’s no single religion would ever derive from this so called "false religion."

ONLY Peter? that's the way YOU had it interpreted?
If that's true, then why didn't Paul and the other disciples stay with Peter?

Peter - only represented himself.
John at the cross - represented all of mankind.

Quite frankly, the opposite is more true:

Peter represented all of mankind.
John represented himself.

Your way, Jesus only spoke to Peter. Yet, he addressed crowds with His teachings.
John did what James called "pure and undefieled religion": to care of the widowed and orphans.

I am not really sure what that is. In the Byzantine tradition we do the sign of the Cross with only three of our fingers, with the other two tucked into our palm. The three representing the Three Hypostases of God and the two representing Christ's human and divine nature. I do not know if this is what the latin artists were trying to represent though.
