It focuses on seventh graders in Byron, California, and says that although students in a growing number of public schools cannot wear crosses or utter the name of Jesus, they are being required to attend an intensive three-week course on Islam including mandated study of the tenets of Islam, the important people of Islam, wearing of a robe, adopting a Moslem name, and staging their own Jihad. It says that the California-required course uses a textbook that says a lot more about Islam than about Christianity and quotes a teacher who says she couldn't teach Christianity like that and can't even say the name of Jesus in the classroom, but the seventh graders are learning how to pray to Allah. I have known some teachers to tell kids not to say "bless you" after another kid sneezes because some kids will use it as an excuse to be disruptive, such as screaming 'bless you!' as loud as they can across the room. The problem is that we always just get one side of the story because the teacher can't defend themselves to the media.

The way I took it is that there already existed a list of banned words which 'bless you' was one. When a student sneezed Kendra said "Bless you"". Kendra was reprimanded by the teacher so Kendra objected on Constitutional grounds of free speech including her right to express religious freedom.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) – One professor at the College of Coastal Georgia has banned students from saying “bless you” in his class.

The article that I read stated that he banned students from interrupting his lectures by saying "bless you" when somebody sneezes, sharpening their pencils, or being unprepared for class. There really isn't anything religious about saying "bless you" when an individual sneezes. It sounds more like he just doesn't want anybody interrupting his teaching than anything else.
 
skipp, skipp, skipp, you're missing the point. We can use "He banned saying "God bless you" in his class!" as yet another rallying cry for christians. WE HAVE TO BAND TOGETHER AGAINST THOSE WHO WOULD OPPRESS US! YEAH!

Please don't muddy the waters with facts. We have heard what we wanted to hear and that's all we want to hear. The truth would only cloud the issue and ruin a perfectly good "the world is against us" topic. :P
 
So much for the presumed intellect afforded Professors.
It's legally unenforceable. Hopefully a Christian law group will prove that to this professor and the college he works for.

Where in the Bible does it state that we should say "bless you" when somebody sneezes? Seriously, this doesn't seem to have anything to do with religion. Let's not cry wolf here.

The point is, if this professor doesn't want his class interrupted by the expression, bless you, what's he think about the sneeze itself? That would qualify as an interruption.
I've heard people sneeze when they're many isles away and in a grocery store.

What about saying, Gesundheit?

Regardless of what atheists and others think about this, it is legally unenforceable. He can't discipline a student, even in college, for disobeying his unenforceable rule.
The sneeze is the first interruption. His excuse of banning the respondent phrase, bless you, is weak given that.
