Was Jesus being disrespectful to His mother?

On John 2:4, we read that Jesus addressed His mother as "woman". Could not He use another way of addressing His own mother? Or what can we speak of such an incident?
 
Back in those days, "Woman" was a respectful way of addressing women. Kind of like "Ma'am" in our days.
 
I seriously doubt it.

I always laugh at this because He still had to honor her. The next verse tells of Mary commanding her servents to do whatever He says. And Jesus was without hypocrisy. He could not go against His own law. Only reason I laugh is because it was an everyday type of event. You know, it's a party, and He was probably just sitting there listening to some "jolly" hearted stories, then out of no where His mom say to Him "There is no wine." :p Like, what else was He supposed to do? His mom knew who He was and is. She probably knew that she had that authority over Him for this one thing.

Just a few of my thoughts on this. Hopefully I don't start a heated debate... :o

I am sorry to have posted the same thread twice. I was trying to edit the first one to come up with the second one as the best. Disregard the first thread please. I humbly carry the blame.

1) The only other person addressed as "woman" by God was Eve. Mary is the new Eve. The old Eve brought sin into the world and persuaded Adam to eat of the sinful fruit. Mary brought Jesus into the world and persuaded him to perform his first miracle (turning water into wine).

When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:3-5 NIV)



2) Jesus addressing her as "woman" identifies her as the one called "woman" in the Revelation of Jesus Christ .

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. (Revelation 12:1 NIV)



3) She is the woman who is to be called "Blessed" by ALL generations.

For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. (Luke 1:48 NLT)

I like that debbie. So, He was in fact, respect her as " ma'am" we use today. i wrote this because my Muslim brother asked me the same question. I thank God for the wisdom He give to His children in tearing apart their critics arguments.
