Was Mary Sinless?

"Hail Mary full of GRACE" is what Elizabeth said to Mary when they met....both pregnant.

If Mary needed to be sinless in order to be blessed with being the mother of Jesus then everyone is doomed and Jesus's sacrifice means nothing.

Because then Grace is not Grace....and its works based salvation.

Mary was just an average, normal, poor but honest girl. Nothing exceptional about her in comparison to so many other women her age. Same thing with Joseph. Just a normal construction worker trying to make ends meet.

But God CHOSE to bless her with Jesus....there is NOTHING in scriptures to tell us God's decision making process in choosing her...except that she came from the correct bloodline at the right time and was Jewish. Meaning she practiced Judaism....just like everyone else.

I want God's blessings in my life and I'm not exceptional. Because of Mary and Joseph I have HOPE.

In Luke 1:46-47, we read - Then Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! Why would Mary need a Savior if she was sinless? Romans 3:23 clearly states - ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Notice it doesn't say all "expect Mary." Jesus Christ was the only exception. Hebrews 4:15 - For we do not have a high priest (Jesus Christ) who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. The Bible nowhere says that about Mary.

Well that would make Jesus not human and clearly, how then could He have been tempted like all we are?

The entire point is that He overcame and did not sin and therefore His death on our behalf as the final sacrifice was acceptable to the Father and we are seen as sinless before God if we are IN Christ. We, are not sinless; Jesus is our High Priest.

Well, the only sinnless person was Jesus Christ. No other person was sinnless. So all thoughts about Mary or other persons to be sinnless is a speculation which is not based on the word of God.

Right. But Matthew 1:20 says that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

How do you reconcile the two?

There is nothing to reconcile. The Holy Spirit overshadowed her, just as Scripture says. The One Who spoke the universe into being
and created everything within it and gave us life is surely capable of causing a woman to conceive without the use of a man.

Mary conceiving in no way suggests implantation.

I did a little research. Genesis 3:15 supports Mary's part in conception.

Is it your understanding that the sin nature only passes through the male?

Actually I'm reconsidering considering Genesis 3:15...seed of the woman. I don't believe, however, that sin is only passed through the man per Psalm 51:5. So I guess the miracle in the virgin birth is that the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary so that the sin nature does not become part of Jesus' human nature.
