What do you give ear to?
• Pro 17:4 -> “An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.”.
Evildoers and liars get pleasure hearing wickedness.
• 1Jn 4:5 -> “They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them.”.
In Israel we can see this:
• Jer 5:30,31 -> “An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?”.
• Isa 30:9-11 -> “For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the LORD; who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”.
Lamentably, this happens also in our days inside the Church:
• 2Ti 4:3,4 -> “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”.
If we long for dwelling with Jesus, we need to be more careful about what we hear and see:
• Isa 33:14,15 -> “The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?” He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,”.
After all:
• Pro 4:23 -> “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”.
So, have a good day following Paul’s advice:
• Php 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Even when this isn’t pleasant to us. After all:
• Pro 28:4 -> “Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive against them.”
