12AM is not just behind 11AM, but just before 1AM. 12PM is before 1PM, but behind 11AM.

Who's making things complicated here??? Us or you Brittish/American people???? :p :p :p
 
British makes sense! There are the same numbers, but with am or pm after them.

The measurements are all weird. I mix them up all the time.
 
Then your shell is wrong. CEST is our time. (Central European Standard Time)

my shell likes to forget that I'm in norway :p I have to reset it to UT-8 every time I start it
