What does it mean “to be sluggard”?

  • “Go to the ant, sluggard; consider her ways and be wise;” (Proverbs 6.6).

On the contrary of what people fancy, sluggard is hardworking. Only that the sluggard works in vain things. Hence Solomon advice people to go to the ant:

  • “who, having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provides her food in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest.” (Proverbs 6.7,8)

As we know, the ant works incessantly, and what for? Only to keep alive. This is what succeed with most of the people: they work so much in order to survive and, sometimes, to procure an iota of pleasure. In the end, what is the point of living in this world? What transformation did our presence promotes in the lives with whom we get in touch?

Analise Paul’s life, for example. Where he passed, the things took place: Jesus’ enemies were harassed; those who were destined to the eternal life (Acts 13.48), repented and converted to Christ, etc.

Today, what does it come about where Jesus’ people meet up? Many times we have a brothel in front, a drug den to the right, a casino to the left, a place of worship to Ha-Satan behind, all of them living together peacefully. On the other hand, in Paul’s time, we see people lashing out, gainsaying, whipping or running after him in order to demise him because his ministry threatened his profits (for instance, Acts 16.20,21; 19.23-28).

So, let’s abide by Jesus’ commandment and get hold of a week very meaningful:

  • Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for that food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you. For God the Father sealed Him.” (John 6:27).
