I done research projects and given presentations over/on 'love'. It's one of the most difficult to define words of all time...literally (source is me)! Every language had one or multiple words to describe what in English we call 'love' and different kinds of love, and different contexts of love, etc etc etc...
In fact, dictionary definitions don't even agree depending on the edition and dictionary series in question! ...and in a world where anything can mean whatever you want it to mean (present day), it all becomes even more vague, varied, and precarious.
That all being said, what were my findings? What is love to me?
The most concise answer I've come to so far is this:
Love, while affiliated with many things, is neither simply a notion nor feeling (despite the presence and association of those things). 'Love' is essentially a conscious or subconscious choice or decision to value, desire, and otherwise prefer or defer to a certain person, place, thing, or series of such above both others and self.
That's love in an objective sense, but if we speak socially, that decision or choice requires certain thoughts, words, actions, and for some, feelings, which are associated with it as 'proof' or 'evidence' of its existence.
