It has been brought to my attention that my statement in post # 3...

"Our bodies will die and then we'll get new bodies in heaven."

...is worded in a way that leads everyone to believe that we'll get new bodies as soon as we die. I didn't go into details because I just didn't think it was needed here. So, if you don't mind, please let me take a moment to share what the Bible tells us about getting new bodies. :D

2 Cor 5:8 does tell us to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The verses surrounding that makes it clear that we, as believers, are ushered directly into the presence of God upon death. :)

The Bible does show us, as believers, that while in the presence of the Lord, we will not receive our glorified body until a later time. Upon death, our bodies go into the grave and await for the sound of the trumpet - 1 Thess 4:16-17 - THAN we shall be like Him. 1 John 3:2

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 shows us that we are awaiting or new bodies. Bodies that will be able to live throughout eternity in the form God created us to enjoy. The new glorified body of the Christian is yet future, though each deceased believer is now in the presence of the Lord. :D
