I like movies that are based on true stories, like Shindlars List. Also like movies like Shawshank Redemption, Freedom Writers, Dangerous Minds.

I like some Musicals as well - why don’t you have that genre?

I enjoy watching Musicals and old Disney movies like The Parent Trap (Hayley Mills version) for Other.

The only genre I HATE is action fims. They pretty much have no plot and the dialogue goes something like this:

Hero: Let’s show these turkeys who is boss!

Team: Yeah!, Way to Go!

Villain: It will take more than your pesky weapons to get rid of me.

Team gets on some sort of souped up transportation and blows something up.

Villain: I knew I should have taken out the spark plugs when I had a chance.

Team: That’s another bad guy who won’t menace truth, justice, and the American way!

I enjoy superheros/action/comedy movies.

I enjoy watching them with friends and you get to whoop and laugh at what's going on. I really liked Wonder Woman. I had a lot of fun with Avengers 3 though the ending left me... (ok no spoilers).

I am not a fan of horror movies but I did find Get Out funny.

Alright, do one for Random Harvest, then.

Action movies are actually asinine on purpose. Hollywood caters to the Chinese market. It is waaaay to difficult to translate the subtelties of a Mankiewicz or Hecht, so movies today are light on dialogue and character development and heavy on explosions.

It’s very easy to translate Boom!

I mostly watch movies from the Golden Era, 1930s-1960s. I’m watching Stagecoach right now (1939). I’m not really into Westerns, but this one has a pilgrim structure- a disparate group of people going to the same destination. That sort of structure always appeals to me.

My choice wasn't an option. I pretty much only watch Sci-Fi. Unless my husband wants me to watch something with him. He is careful to pick good historical movies, so I can talk through it explaining the historical details and background that do not come out in the movie script.

Probably Sci-Fi is a better choice! Not much to talk about! LOL. Well, I am sure he appreciates my added "colour" for each and every movie!

Ok so here is most romantic dramas in a nutshell....



Woman: I love my current man but he doesn't truly appreciate me... OR.... I don't need a man, I'm doing just fine on my own

Cut to part where woman meets good-looking man who she initially does NOT like... OR.... who she DOES like, but cannot have due to extenuating circumstances (her family wouldn't approve, she already has a man in her life, etc...)

Man: This woman is amazing but she doesn't notice me or like me. I will do everything to show her how wonderful I can be

Woman: I think I misjudged this man. I think I'm starting to have feelings for him, but it will never work due to extenuating circumstances

Other man or authority in woman's life: i suspect something might be going on between those two

Man: Confesses - I love you. Let me prove myself by showing you I am worthy and/or better than the other man... and I don't care if its wrong. We were meant to be!

Woman: I love you too and let's sneak around and try not to get caught, while at the same time trying to get away from the other man or authority (extenuating circumstance)

Other man or someone with authority catches on to their relationship and tries to somehow sabatoge the man she loves

Woman comes in at the exact right moment and catches him/them trying to hurt, kill or trick the one she loves and confesses to them who her real love is and breaks it off with other man or authority

Man and woman leave together and live happily ever after... OR.... man and woman make a suicide pact because they know they cannot get away from the other man or authority (extenuating circumstances) (as in romeo and juliet)

Nice try, but not all of the plots are that way. Check out Random Harvest. It’s pretty good. Really good, in my opinion. I like it so much, my mother ordered the book for me off the internet as a present. I haven’t read the book, yet.

Greer Garson and Ronald Coleman were BIG names! They used big names, then too. In A Streetcar Named Desire, the entire Broadway cast was used in the film, EXCEPT Jessica Tandy. The studio wanted a “name” so they hired Vivien Leigh, instead. Tandy was reportedly extremely good as Blanche and won a Tony.

Julie Andrews performed as Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady on Broadway, but she was not a “name”, so they hired Audrey Hepburn who could NOT sing and had to be dubbed in by Marni Nixon!

Hilton is a pretty good writer. I have read some of his books, some are very good and some are meh. I think Random Harvest will be a good read.

I’m an old movie nerd, so I’m full of random bits of information like that. Apparently, Hollywood was kind of irked at Warner, so that is part of the reason she won the award. Many people felt she was done wrong by not being cast in My Fair Lady.
