he says if he is not the one who wants to sin, it's not him who does it, but sin dwelling in his flesh.

Great question! This talks to the topic of Repentance. It is someone who has changed his mind. We find John the Baptist preparing the way for the ministry of Jesus Christ through the ministry of repentance.

Paul refers to it as follows:

Acts 19
4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

There are two potential states in a person.
  • Flesh wants and Mind Wants (non repentant)
  • Flesh wants but Mind doesn't (repentance)
Under both scenarios Flesh still dominates (see Romans 7v23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.)

Repentance is not what saves you (Christ does) but repentance is a precursor to Christs forgiveness. It too is a precursor to living life in the Spirit. The corollary - if Paul (his mind) wanted to live according to the flesh, then he CANNOT be in a position to be led by the Spirit.

That's why it says we are to SET OUR MINDS on the Spirit, and not on the Flesh

Romans 8
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3 -

1 And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as fleshly—as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, for not yet were you able. ^ Okay, so this is saying that it is possible for regenerate persons to "walk according to the flesh" (not that this is to be the "norm" for believers/saints/the-regenerate/saved-persons, but that this is indeed a possible state/condition to be in, AS believers/saints/the-regenerate/saved-persons), b/c those in this passage were indeed regenerate/saved-persons. ;)

The very same John you like quoting - here is another of his quotes. Yet you say they are. Because you say so. Ignoring hundreds if not thousands of scriptures.

Yes they are not burdensome

but the flesh still lives, and we still war against the flesh. The less mature we are. The harder the struggle

yet christians (like Paul) struggle with it all their life

we all have our besetting sin, pauls besetting sin was pride, his thorn in the flesh was given many believe to keep his pride in check. Because it would have destroyed his testimony.

When we meet the lord. You will get a rude awakening, like many pharisees, who think they arrived, yet failed to repent. Not only of their sins, but their refusal to listen and willful twisting of people’s words.
ps, I do not have to accuse you, you accuse yourself every time you twist or misrepresent what another person said
