When I tried to find out how the beatitudes were related to each other, I noticed these examples were in chronological order.

Beatitude #1: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Old Testament: Adam and Eve before the Fall (Genesis 2:25; 1:28)
Jesus' Life: Jesus was born poor, but was worshipped as King of the Jews by the Magi. (Luke 2:6-7; Matthew 2:1-2, 11)

Beatitude #2: Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Old Testament: Lamech and Noah (Genesis 5:28-29; 6:5-8)
Jesus' Life: Jesus escaped a massacre at Bethlehem and later returned to the land of Israel. (Matthew 2:16-23; Jeremiah 31:15-17)

Beatitude #3: Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Old Testament: Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 12:8; 13:6-9; 18:1-5; 22:1-3; 26:19-22; 13:14-15)
Jesus' Life: Jesus was obedient to His parents (the first commandment with promise). (Luke 2:42-51; Deuteronomy 5:16)

Beatitude #4: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Old Testament: Moses and the Israelites (Deuteronomy 8:14-15, 2-3; 6:25)
Jesus' Life Jesus was hungry when He was tempted. (Matthew 3:13-17; 4:1-4, 23; Luke 4:13-15)

Beatitude #5: Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Old Testament: Rahab and Ruth (Joshua 2:12-14; Ruth 2:11-12, 20; 3:9-11; 4:13-14)
Jesus' Life: Jesus had mercy on the Canaanite woman and her daughter. (Matthew 15:21-28;
Isaiah 53:12)

Beatitude #6: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Old Testament: Samuel (1 Samuel 2:29-30; 3:1, 21)
Jesus' Life: Jesus predicted His own death but still chose to obey God. Later, God spoke out of the cloud when Jesus was transfigured. (Matthew 16:21-23; Luke 9:28-36)

Beatitude #7: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Old Testament: Solomon made peace by administering justice (1 Kings 3:9-14; Isaiah 2:4; 2 Chronicles 9:12; 2 Samuel 7:12-15; 1 Chronicles 28:2-6)
Jesus' Life: Jesus wanted to bring peace to Jerusalem, but Jerusalem rejected Him. (Luke 19:28-44; Psalm 2:6)

Beatitude #8: Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Old Testament: Priests, Levites, and Prophets (2 Chronicles 11:14; 16:10, 24:20-21; 1 Kings 19:10; 22:26-28; Amos 7: 10-13; Jeremiah 26:23; 11:19; 15:10; 18:18; 20:2; 26:8-9; 36:26; 37:11-16; 38:9, 13, 28; 43:2)
Jesus' Life: Jesus died on the cross as the King of the Jews. (Matthew 27:35-50; 1 Peter 2:23-24; Revelation 1:4-6)

That was an interesting idea, but frankly I think the beatitudes are like a multifaceted diamond and it does not matter in which order they are viewed, although one and eight seem to serve as bookends.
