What can a servant of God be likened to?
A sheep dog, is loyal, its purpose, one procured, raised and trained by a Shepard. It is trained to assist the Shepard. To corral the sheep. Help protect them. The dog is taught and learns from its Master the Shepard, all that it must do. It listens to the Shepard who loves and owns it. It is loyal, and though sometimes can become distracted like any dog. Will upon command do as ordered. Following and watching for the words and gestures of the Shepard, its owner, to the point that it will become instinct to know what the Shepard would want it to do and how to behave in guarding and guiding the flock the Way the Shepard wants them to go. The dog is obedient and loyal, knowing and following its master everywhere. The one who bought it, loves it, feeds it, and cares for it. Its joy is in not serving itself, but bringing joy to its owner who has invited, bought and made His home with them in love.
A vase or wine skin they’re both containers, which come in many shapes and sizes. It is crafted by its creator’s hands for its purpose. Using the materials desired to help shape it for its purpose. Once completed this container is marveled and admired by the one who created it. For it is by their own hands for their purpose it was created. To serve at their calling and will.
Now the container may not at first know why it is created. For what purpose it is made. Until it is revealed by the one who made it. When it is filled, accordingly to fulfill its purpose for which it has been crated by its creator, then it’s ready to be used. Yet, the next challenge is the container cannot move itself. It cannot pour itself out to serve the creators guests. It cannot fill itself to quench the thirst of others. If it tries, it will fail. It is only by the hand and power of its creator when in use, it is useful and serves its purpose.
Only by the power of its creators hand, strength and guidance is it useful. The container can then know and understand its purpose is to serve and not be served. That it is not by its strength, wisdom, or intelligence that it is useful. For it has nothing and is nothing apart from its creator and would not even have any attribute had it not been given to it by its creators hand.
A good Master had a field that needed to be worked. So he went out to the market and sought to hire people. He hired two workers that day.
A field which had seed cast far and wide landing on both cultivated and non cultivated ground. Because the time for planting had grown short.
Both workers worked the cultivated ground. One worker, once the cultivated ground was done sat down and relaxed. Shading himself and partaking in some of the previous crop that had sprung up. Yet the other one, after seeing the cultivated plants were good and weeds treated, noticed the other seeds amongst the rocks and other non cultivated ground full of weeds.
Without being told, he worked and searched out for those who had root but were amongst the thorns and weeds. When he found them he carefully dug them up and transplanted them to the cultivated ground that they may have good soil from which to receive good nourishment reviving the plant. That it may have the chance to grow strong and survive increasing thereby increasing the Master’s crop and return on investment.
Upon seeing this, the Master approached the first worker relaxing and said, I will give you part of your wages for the day and send you on your way. Because I also saw you helping yourself to my crops and not caring or seeking for the other plants that had not landed on good ground or in the good soil. I will not longer require your services. Here is what you are owed, now depart from me. Knowing he had also helped himself to other food which he had in his garden without permission.
The other good and faithful worker he took to the side and said, why did you continue to work and seek out that which was not in the good soil? The servant replied, because you didn’t have to hire me, you could have chosen someone, anyone else at the market. Yet I have watched and seen how you treated your workers and servants knowing you to be a good and just man. You chose me and you didn’t have to!
The Master smiled and said, good and faithful servant, because you have searched and looked over not only that which I put in good soil. Allow where I have not sown. You have searched and sought to bring in that which has landed in bad soil. You have increased my crops. And behold, the plants that were weary, wilting and dying, some you were able to save, and transplanted into the garden and have become strong and prosperous even multiplying growing larger and stronger than the ones that were always in good soil!
Therefore good and faithful servant, I will put you in charge that you may seek out and hire workers such as yourself knowing me and how I am. That they may too go seek and find the plants that want to be transplanted and grow strong in my good garden and for my pleasure. Behold I have tripled your wages and set you over my crops, and come, stay with me, you have a room in my house as long as you want it!
Then what does it mean to be a servant of God? Who is the Mater and Shepard? Who and what are the loyal and faithful servants like? Useful unto their creator and Lord? Be the sheep dog, be the container, be the fearful and humble servant who is honored to serve the one who chose them to perform His work and will! With joy, love and humility. That you may honor the one who chose to purchase and hire you to do His good work on earth, as it is done in heaven.
