What is Gods law?

So I was reading in 1 John 3:4. It said, "Everyone who sins is breaking God's law, for all sin contrary to the law of God." What I don't understand is, what is Gods law. Is it in Matthew 4,5,and 6? or is it the ten commandments?

Matthew 5:18-20 says, "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

Then it goes on to say that Jesus gives us new commands...but is this all there is to it? What about Galatians 5:19-21?

Any thoughts on this matter?

I believe it's the law written in man[kind]'s hearts (Roman's 2:15, Hebrews 8:10 and 10:16, Jeremiah 31:33).

"He who knows good/the right thing to do, yet does not do it, to him it is sin" (James 4:17)─

all sin is contrary to the law of God.

I hope that makes sense! I feel like I could have structured that better.

I thnk you said it quite clearly. God is love... Love does right by others, doesn't just find rules to adhere to.

You can know which law God desires you to keep, for when you break that law you sin, and will have heartfelt conviction you are sinning. The law God desires the Christian to keep is written on their mind at the point of conversion and placed on their heart(Heb 10:16&17) Therefore you must have heartfelt conviction when you break the law placed within you(you sin)
It is for the Christian to live in the power of the Holy Spirit and stand by faith in Christ, that is your only righteousness before God. (Rom 1:17) The more you look to your Saviour and trust in him to change you, and not yourself, the more the fruits of the Holy Spirit will grow in your life(Galatians 5:22) As Paul says in the next verse, ''against such things(fruit) there is no law. For the fruits of the Spirit encompass the law you are required to keep

Matthew 5:18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Matthew 2:5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

It means whatever that has been written or prophesied, that it is going to take place before the end comes. Nothing cannot be change, it must goes as planned.

okay Gods law is written into our very nature. Just ask a vet how it feels to kill someone, many have nightmares and what is called PST's. It is not natural for a human to kill another human. What law did Abraham , Issac, and Jacob have? They had none, only what God had placed in their heart. In the New covenant it is the same, His law or word is placed in our heart as a part of the new birth. It is better than law keeping.

Look you can keep the Sabbath and still be evil. Proven by the pharisee's. You can keep the ten commandments and still be evil. Just saying a thief is a thief. A thief will rob a bank, but an educated thief will steal the bank company and do it legally, but he is still a thief.

Exodus 21:26 “An owner who hits a male or female slave in the eye and destroys it must let the slave go free to compensate for the eye.

Matthew 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’

Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

The people of the old testament days had taken the word of God out of context; they sort saw it in a different way. They were under the control of the devil and which they had listened and obeyed him; and so God had to worked around their way of perceiving His word; if He didn't, He would of have to destroy everyone. God had given the people earthly treasures instead of heavenly treasure, since the devil has tricked them into believing that earthly treasures will give them fulfillment, pleasures. The prophets all had live off the supplies that God has given them. And so we can't goes by what they had done in the past, for they were under the reign of the serpent, but now we have to let God reign in us and go under Jesus interpretation of the word what He was teaching them.

God's Law is the 10 Commandments. Jesus sums them up with the 2 saying- love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (first 4) and your neighbor as yourself(last 6). If you truly do those 2 commands to the fullest you will be obeying the 10 Commandments.

to follow or not follow the law, there are good arguments on both sides. i chose to follow them. this is the way i see it. I would rather do my best to follow when i shouldnt have then to toss them aside like garbage when i should have tried to follow. following the law when you dont have to can not be a big crime. i know of no examples in our bible of one being punished for following the law.

G-d’s law is the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, which means unto righteousness. And to uncover all the precious jewels from Torah couldn’t even be done in having a class that was 24/7 for 365 days!!!!
This is G-d’s beautiful Law. Before I got saved I know what it was and I did not measure up. Me, righteousness and heaven was not adding up. One day sitting in a restaurant of all places I heard (for real) a voice and He said if you die today you will go to hell. I had a fear like never before, or will I ever have again. Now I did know anything about Y-shua but somehow that day I knew who it was. And right then and there I latterly cried out “Lord Save Me.” I got saved by grace that day and have stayed saved every day for the last 25+ years by that same grace and mercy that meant me in Patton’s restraint on the Westside of Columbus, OH. Today I am in love with G-d’s beautiful Torah (law) more than ever. Why? Not to save me … I am sooooo saved and beyond….. But it teaches me how to live holy because my Dad is holy. And I love Him so I want to do what I know pleases Him as much as Y-shua enables me to do by His great grace. Not for any other reason than I love my Daddy!!!!
