What is it necessary to be saved (Part 24).

  • “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20).

Perhaps you are still addled. Nevertheless, figure out: one thing is our work; other one is the work of Christ in us and through us.

Maybe you will question: but how to conciliate these two excerpts?

  • “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. Pois, que diz a Escritura? Creu Abraão a Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.” (Romans 4:3)
  • “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?” (James 2.21,22)

Abraham was justified before the Creator when he believed in Him, giving to Him opportunity to carry out His work providing the lamb for Himself (Gen 22.8).

In other words, it was the work that the Creator could do in virtue of Abraham comply with His order that make Abraham just.

Equally, in the case of Rahab. It was the work that the Creator could do through the faith that Rahab had in Him (to strengthen the faith of Joshua and all Israel’s people – Joshua 2.24) that make her righteous (James 2.25).

It's obvious that Abraham and Rahab had to show their confidence in the Creator obeying His commandments, but what saved them wasn't their works, but Creator's works from their faith, demonstrated through compliance.

Once we are body, soul and spirit, the work of one of them exert influence on the others. Thus, when we do the work that the Creator enjoined us, all of our faculties (thoughts, feelings and spirit) will be exercised to discern the good and evil (Heb 5.14).

Thus, let’s lay down our idleness (Ezek 16.49; 2Peter 1.5-8) and laziness (Prov 6.6-11; 10.26; 12.27; 13.4; 15.19; 19.24; 20.4; 21.25,26; 22.13; 24.30,34; 26.13-16) so that we can be free to the good, perfect and pleasant Creator’s will.

Obs.: idleness is to be occupied with what is of no profit. Lazy is someone that covet every time in virtue of not to work in what is food for the soul (see Isaiah 55.1,2; Prov 6.6-11; 21.25,26).

Have a good day mulling over all this.
