I have never owned .... a castle

I have stayed in one though. At night, it's cool to wander around in your bed sheets and pretend to be ghosts. We scared ourselves silly.

remember that it has to be something you never owned that most people own! most people don't own castles! your story is comical though.

Oh well in England lots of people do.

They just turn them into bed and breakfasts.

Anyway there is only one castle in New Zealand and the owner bought it for a song. Cos it was nearly in ruins, so it went cheap.
 
Huh you can even get a job there.

But you can't live and work there at the same time. Dang. The commute from Auckland will also take a while.

I'd sign up to do the garden tours.

Look at all these plants! That yellow flower is laburnum! That one over there is gorse!
Watch out for the prickles I mean scotch thistles. We recommend wearing crocs.

Most castles in England tend to be owned by organisations such as the National Trust or English Heritage. Some are owned by the local council. An example of this is Colchester Castle:

I doubt whether permission would be given to turn any historic castle in England into a bed & breakfast.

Well the one I stayed in (in England) was and it was at least 2 centuries old. It wasn't a manor or former abbey it was they said a castle (with turrets?) or that's what they said.

There were suits of armour inside but I don't think they had a moat. But not all castles have moats.

I'd love to visit Sissinghurst, famous for its garden, esp the 'white garden'. People try to reproduce it in NZ but inevitably fail. If we have a white garden with just white flowers it looks to glarey in the NZ light, (it only really comes to life in the nighttime) and well yea, there is only that one castle, Larnach Castle. But the Larnach Castle garden is amazing.

The owner, Mrs Barker, would source plants from South America which has similar climate to Dunedin, as well as our own natives (the iconic Cabbage Trees) and there's a touch of Scottish heather as well. One of the gardens has an Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts throne. She also has a laburnum arch which is stunning in flower, and be the side on the slope, a south seas garden full of exotic (to NZ) plants.

Anyway, I don't own a castle, only in my dreams.

Also, have you not read the book 'I capture the castle' by Dodie Smith? Yes most people don't own castles, but then nowadays most people can't even dream of owning their own house anymore.

I mean I don't and I'm an adult.

interesting. david bowie bought a mountain in the catskill range which is middle to southern new york.

Well I've only been there once, it's open to visitors. I think it's one of the top tourist attractions in Dunedin. The other is the steepest street in the world.

I was ridiculed for not owning one, or having one named after me, or for even defending the mountains' rights to exist in NZ. Like it has personhood.

Do only old people own mountains?

Well, Sir Edmund Hillary was said to be the first to climb/summit Mt Everest in Nepal but he never claimed to own it.

I'm not sure if adoption counts as 'owning' I just pay the vet bills and food.
