That's part of the whole big picture, keep yourself filled with the Spirit and you will keep producing the fruit thereof. No oil no fruit, no fruit no oil. They're a fixed pair.
 
remember all in all, everything is to be brought and remain subject to the master yahshua messiah.

outside of him, there's many different spirit, many different fruit, and different oil.

in him there's one spirit, only good fruit, and only his oil. no mixture with evil or any kind of greed nor deception.

What does a person have to do to keep ourselves filled with the Holy Spirit?
 
Wow! Thanks, everyone, for the excellent studies and conversation.

I also thought it was the Holy Spirit, but realized you can't really influence the amount of Holy Spirit one has. Like, I can invite more and pray for it, but it is a gift, not something I can "buy." I thought perhaps knowledge, but what knowledge?
What wisdom? Prophetic understanding?

As in the study shared by JB, those that didn't understand get left behind. Is this the "rapture," or the return, and because they misunderstood scripture and it's meaning, those that didn't understand get left behind?

With so many interpretations (I've been reading this a lot lately; there are many different ideals. Which understanding is true, and will help me be sure to have enough "oil" to make it to the return?
 
The cultural background of this parable concerns Jewish wedding customs of the 1st century Palestine.
Jewish weddings had 2 phases.
The bridegroom accompanied by his friends went 1st to the brides home to obtain his bride and observe religious ceremonies.
Then he would take his bride to his own home for a resumption of the festivities.
It was on this return journey that the virgins, the friends of the bride [they are not the bride] are suppose to join the procession and enter with her into the bridegrooms house, where, in accordance with Jewish custom, the wedding feast was held.
So these virgins represents none else than a Jewish remnant (Rev.14:1-5)
They are represented by the 10 virgins [10 representing completeness] split into half [5 representing incompleteness] which correspond to the 144 000 Jewish converts.These stands in a special relation to the Lamb.They are virgins (Rev.14:4)
But of course its impossible that only 144 000 will be saved from the Tribulation period.
There are great numbers to get into heaven besides these 144 000, which is from every tongue & nation, but the 144 000 is pure Jew, not mixed.
Just because oil represents the Spirit or wisdom does not mean that for everything we should interpret it as the Spirit now.
By Christ's 1st coming, the Jews misses being part of the bride, because they failed to recognise Him as their Messiah, so they were not ready and thus broken off the olive tree.
In the Tribulation period is it just a remnant Jews that will recognise Him as their Messiah and be re=rooted into the olive tree.
Just as the Jews is slumbering now they will be slumbering during the Tribulation period in recognizing the Messiah, but only those of a ready acceptant heart, enlightened in the Word will make it.
Remember the 5 foolish didn't make it because they were not in their position, wandering off, dislocated, just as those Jewish Pharisees misled the Jews by their false doctrine in the time of Christ, also just as Adam & Eve were not to be found in their position when God was doing visitation on them.

It is wrong to interpret every prediction of Christ, every parable as pertaining to the Church.
Even the Dry Bones of Ezekiel is teached as the Church.
We can preach [comparing spiritual things with spiritual], as the Church yes, but when we teach, we need to be 100% on the dot as to its real significance.
When Scripture needs to be taken literal, we shouldn't spiritualise it. When it is to be interpreted spiritually, we shouldn't take it to be literal.

Rejecting sin in your life and walking in the Light is foremost. Praying, fasting and prayer, supplication, confession... following Christ by being kind to strangers, generous of heart... forsaking the world and embracing God...

But you knew all this. What exactly were you trying to set me up for?

This is very thought provoking. What you are saying makes perfectly logical sense, and may have been the answer I was seeking. I will be spending some time this weekend reading about Jewish wedding customs.

You've said what you thought the oil didn't mean. Do you think the oil means anything, or is it incidental to the larger picture?
 
faith isn't ever referred to as being 'bought', or purchasing 'faith'.

but truth is. at all cost, get truth. (living truth, yahshua; not 'facts' alone).

Buy the Truth, and Do Not Sell It (this explains in part.... but is not enough to counteract the prevalent errors )..... perhaps if God permits though it may stir up a desire for truth that is needed before truth is revealed, and a willingness to literally "get truth at all cost" ... ... not even all the disciples with jesus were willing to - so most left him instead of bearing with him (abiding with him through all , as peter and the other disciples who remained with him did, even unto painful suffering and death).
 
In this parable, the oil is bought and sold, suggesting that "oil", as an image in this parable, is more literal than in other prophetic texts.

'Buying and selling' is parable language in the Bible for salvation through the gospel (being bought by God) or lack of salvation (sold into spiritual bondage). That is why Isaiah 55:1 says we can buy salvation from God's word without using physical money. "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price". The Bible says that the saved are bought with a price (1 Cor 7:23), which price of course is Jesus on the cross atoning for our sins. In the parable of the 10 virgins, the unsaved are told to go to those who have the gospel (those who buy) so that they can purchase salvation without price also. Unfortunately, they seem to have waited too long to do it.
