There are other spiritual gifts for this purpose now.
What other spiritual gift speaks words of edification, exhortation, and comfort from God?

Genuine prophecies are now found only in Scripture.
Prophecies, whether through the manifestation of prophecy or through someone with the ministry of a prophet, are available in the church today.

Not according to Scripture: Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail [will be done away]; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. (1 Cor 13:8-10).

The same Greek word -- καταργηθήσονται = they will be done away -- was translated as "fail" and "vanish away" in the KJV. The word "perfect" could have been (and should have been) "complete".*

*Strong's Concordance
teleios: having reached its end, i.e. complete, by ext. perfect
Original Word: τέλειος, α, ον
Part of Speech: Adjective
Transliteration: teleios
Phonetic Spelling: (tel'-i-os)
Definition: having reached its end, complete, perfect
Usage: perfect, (a) complete in all its parts, (b) full grown, of full age, (c) specially of the completeness of Christian character.

So when Scripture was complete with Revelation as the last major prophecy, prophecies did cease. As I already mentioned not one the the Early Church Fathers ever claimed to be a prophet. Had prophesies continued after Revelation, that would not have been the case.

Even the most devout Christians on this forum will not be able to accept what I have to say. God is going to do a thing so great and terrible that you cannot even fathom it, let alone accept it. And again I ask, what good is it for me to tell anyone? I fear, and think I know deep down in my heart, that God has raised me up to be the unheard prophet: a raving madman preaching from the street corner about what He is going to do and that no one will listen or heed my warning. And then it will be too late.
The number of those who listen to some voice without checking out its authenticity and then come to believe they are a prophet of great importance causes me to conclude this is one of the devils' favorite schemes. And from 2016 no less.

Thank you, brother. God bless you for your kindness and respect.

I try to live a godly life in Christ Jesus. If you think I'm fake and want to know more about me, here's my Facebook: Jon Christian Minor | Facebook

I don't ask for anything nor want anything for prophesying. I don't want/need fans, fame, or fortune for it. I freely give as I've freely received.
Puzzling. The gifts are for the building up of the body of Christ. NOT for notoriety or gain, so not sure why you would think anyone, if actually a prophet, would think they should think they need to say they are not 'paid'.

Prophecies, tongues, and knowledge will be done away, but they aren't yet.

You know, for someone who is KJVO, you sure find a lot of things in it to correct. But in this case you're correct. Teleios means "end," or "completeness."

So when Scripture was complete
Whoops! Why do you think teleios is referring to the scriptures being completed? Could it be because you're a cessationist?

with Revelation as the last major prophecy, prophecies did cease.
Revelation is indeed the last book in the Bible, but prophecies have not yet failed, not have tongues ceased. Knowledge (referring to the manifestation of word of knowledge) has not been done away either. God still gives revelation to people.

As I already mentioned not one the the Early Church Fathers ever claimed to be a prophet. Had prophesies continued after Revelation, that would not have been the case.
Based on what?

Just for further clarification, prophesy was in biblical times, the words that God specifically told the prophet to say, not the prophet's own, not paraphrasing God's words, but God's specific words.

Also, interpretation of scripture, as your earlier examples here were, are not prophesy. It's your interpretation of what things mean and who the various people are in today's terms that represent the symbolic ones in the scriptures.

Funny, I use that argument when I say churches shouldn't pay pastors to be professional Christians and most people have excuses as to why it's a different situation.

That was many months before Israel began their strikes and protests. They've been on the verge of a civil war for a few months now (at least that has been the opinion of many journalists reporting in Israel.)

awww I thought you might like my reply 😱 lol.
But never the less your post is perfect ☺️
I had the same thought after I wrote that. But then, as my thoughts characteristically do, I thought on of how He "didn't think being equal with God was anything to grasp at (reach for? since He already was anyway?) and taking on the form of a servant, He..." and then I came around again to the thought of whether it was actually Him in John's revelation as the angel that said, "see that you do it not, I'm just a fellow servant," when John fell down about to worship Him...but I mean, He's so humble, even more than Moses I suppose... and a humble person says things like that, even if they are the greatest....

so I kept it short, so you could have an easier time arguing me ;)

As there seems to be many unrelated and off-topic posts in this thread, if you're interested in the prophetic word, see posts #98, #99, #415, and #483.

That has nothing to do with what I said. Again, the gifts of the Spirit are not for personal gain. They are for the building up of the body of Christ. The terrible sin of so many these days, is that they 'use' the gifts for gain. There will be a day of reckoning for that.
