WHAT IS THE VALUE OF PSALM 22?

Please help me out in understanding the practical value of Ps 22

FIRST COMPARE PS 22 WITH ISAIAH 52-53

Often this passage is called Isaiah 53, but it actually starts in 52. Some of the ideas are quite similar & also complementary. Parallel passages from Isaiah were inserted into parallel passages in Ps 22 below, Ps 22 being in Arial & Isaiah 53 in Times New Roman. A reddish brown color is used for the first theme =
the sufferings of Christ on the cross. The 2nd theme is in blue, which is the attitude and actions of the sinners who surrounded Him in His crucifixion.


THEME 1 = SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST
1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not;
And in the night season, and am not silent.
Isa 53:3b a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

THEME 2: THE ACTIONS & ATTITUDE OF THE SINNERS AT THE CROSS


6 But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised of the people.

They shoot out the lip, they shake the head,
Isa 52:14a many were astonished at you.
Isa 53:3 He was despised and rejected of men; . . .
and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we did not esteem him.

8 Commit thyself unto Jehovah; let him deliver him:
Let him rescue him, seeing he delights in him.

VALUE OF PS 22 WHICH I ALREADY SEE


1 - fulfilled prophecy strengthens faith in God's Word.
2- increased love & appreciation for our Savior.
3- it has apologetic value in presenting the gospel.
4- our behavior is constrained; the love of Christ constrains us.
5- our understanding of the atonement is enhanced, which prevents perishing (my people perish for lack of knowledge).


I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene
& wonder how He could love me a sinner condemned unclean!

Can you add anything to the observed value of Ps 22?

The first thing I think of is; it confirms in the mouth of more than one witness the prophesied mercy YHWH sent us! That is a blessing in itself IMO.

The knowledge that Christ has paid for all my sins at such a horrible cost and set in motion history which will rid me of all sin and constitute me glorified in joy in His presence, the knowledge that He will never leave me nor forsake me, the knowledge that I have eternal life & will never perish no matter what,
never has made me feel like sinning because I could get away with something. Why would I wish to grieve the One Who loves me so?

For the kingdom is YHWH’s;
And he is the ruler over the nations.

Now, as it were, for $64,000, is anyone reminded of anything the Lord Jesus said on the cross?

Although He was murdered and forsaken to pay for my sins with His precious blood; He was resurrected on the 3rd day and sits at the right hand of our Father in heaven so....... He was forsaken but not forsaken let there be no mistaken......

The 22 Psalm is one of the Messianic Psalm trilogy.

In Psalm 22, Jesus represents The Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep (including a graphic description of His sacrifice) but ends in triumph "Tetelesti" Finished, paid in full!!!!!!

Psalm 23, The Great Shepherd, who tends His flock daily, supplying our needs and assuring us that His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life and we will dwell in His house forever.

Psalm 24, The Chief Shepherd, to whom belongs the earth and everything in it, who will reward His sheep and redeem creation.

These, especially in conjunction with Isaiah 52-53, would be perfect for witnessing to the unconverted Jew. (not wanting to stir up controversy but if one were ever in the situation)

The Jews made sunrise hour 1 (our 6 AM). They did not have a number 0.
hour 2 = 7 AM, 3 = 8, 4 = 9, 5 = 10

He is a prophet greater than Moses,
A Priest Greater than Aaron,
A King Greater than Solomon.

He is Prophet, Priest & King in Ps 22

As Priest, He is offering up Himself as a sacrifice, paying the sacrifice of death, separation from God for our sins.

Thanks for informing me about this. As to anyone, one can stick Ps 22 & Isaiah 52-53 under the nose, requesting that he read it, and asking if he sees the Lord Jesus there. Forbid it that we should stir up controversy as the Lord Jesus & Paul did (LOL). Yes, we should beware of being offensive while knowing that the gospel is an offense.

Going off on a tangent here, I observe that neither the Lord Jesus nor Paul were particularly good at getting along with people. The first was crucified, then 2nd evidently got his head chopped off and had a hard to even being tolerated in a city for a few weeks.
