What is your heart: good medicine or drier of bones?
• Pro 17:22 -> “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”.
Many people think that they have the right to be glad. Nonetheless, considering that the mouth speaks what there is in affluence in the heart (Luke 6:45), if the heart is full of mope, despair, affliction, grudge, it is this that the person will convey to people close to them. So, you are obliged to be elated, have peace and be full of love. It isn’t in vain that the fruit of the Holy Spirit has these three characteristics (Gal 5:22).
See the case of Israel in the time of Amos:
• Amo 7:7-9 -> “ This is what he showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. And the LORD said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will never again pass by them; the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.” ”.
As they forsook the Creator, He delivered them to the desires of their heart:
• Rom 1:28 -> “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”.
The outcome was the loss of all feeling:
• Eph 4:17-19 -> “Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.”.
From this moment, the Creator was emphatic: “I will never again pass by them”. The Creator built a wall between Him and Israel so that they never more would experience His presence again. Not to mention that their place of worship would be obliterated.
If we lost the joy of our salvation in Christ, let’s recover it as soon as feasible (Ps 51:12). Otherwise this will stir us up to do things that will preclude the Creator uses us.
