What Jehovah’s Witnesses Believe

First of all, I am not writing this to point the finger in judgment, or trying to convert you to joining their cult or beliefs. This has been written to those few, who are interested knowing the difference between what Christians believes and what the Jehovah Witnesses believe. So that when witnessing or generally chatting to the JW’s, you will have some scriptural armor and head’s up in what they believe and have the right scripture from your Bible with the right meanings against their claims.

In some little areas, of course, the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe much the same as orthodox Christians—for example, their rejection, as sin, of sex outside marriage; their acceptance of the Bible’s creation account, as opposed to evolution theory; and their belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.

But, in much other areas, their doctrines set them apart and mark them as what you may call a pseudo-Christian cult—especially their strict sect’s teachings on the following matters listed below: I have listed just a few below of what they believe, though there are too much to listed in one go.

1 Armageddon: God will soon wage war against mankind, destroying everyone on earth except Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Churches of Christendom, they say, will be the first to be destroyed.

2 Birthdays: Celebrating a birthday in any manner is strictly forbidden. Even sending a birthday card can bring a swift action against the offender by an official “judicial committee.” The punishment is “dis-membership and dis-fellowshipping” from the Jehovah’s witnesses.

3 Blood Transfusions: In actual practice, the JW’s view accepting a blood transfusion as a Sin more serious than theft or adultery. Thieves and adulterers are more quickly forgiven by the Watchtower judicial committees than individuals found guilty of taking blood. A witness must refuse blood in all result of death. The organization also requires adults to refuse transfusions for their minor children too.

4 Christianity: Except for a few scattered individuals who kept the faith, true Christianity vanished from the face of the earth shortly after the death of the twelve apostles—according to JW’s. It was not restored until Charles Taze Russell set up the Watchtower organization in the late 1870’s. When Christ returned invisibly in 1914, he found Russell’s group doing the work of the “faithful and wise servant.” and appointed them over all his belongings. All other Churches and professed Christians actually tools of the devil.

One of many tricks the JW’s use.

In “Psalm 83: 18” says; ‘That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH,
Art the most high over all the earth’ (KJV)

This is one of the few verses that the JW’s like to quote from versions other than their own slanted New World Translation Bible. In particular, they like to quote Palm 83: 18. From the King James Version, because the name JEHOVAH appears there in all capital letters.

Many witnesses have noted in the back of their bibles a list of the four other places where JEHOVAH can be found in the KING JAMES VERSION: Like listed below;
Exodus 6: 3
Psalm 83: 14
Isaiah12: 2
Isaiah 26: 4.

In their door to door preaching they will ask an unsuspecting householder, “ Do you have your own Bible handy?” and then focus attention on one of those verses. Caught off guard by finding Jehovah in their own Bible where the witnesses said it would be, some people become impressed with their knowledge and allow the witnesses into the home to teach them some more.

The JW’s use of the Bible this way to demonstrate their superior knowledge and their claim to “know God’s name” is just a clever trick. There are other cultic and occultic groups that use translations of Hebrew names for God, with similar effect on the uninitiated. But the fact of the matter is that using a name for God does not guarantee that the user knows God or approved by him.

For example, when sinner Eve gave birth to her first son after being driven out from the Garden of Eden, she exclaimed, “I have produced a man with the aid of Jehovah” (Gen 4: 1. NWT) so her use of God’s name did not in any way prove that she had his approval.

To counter act against their claim with the truth.

To show the JW’s that their use of the name Jehovah does not guarantee that they belong to him, but when they claim that to you, you could quote against their claim Jesus’ true Words in (Matthew 7: 22-23) which quotes: “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evil doers”
